Tell me more about Flynn. Where has he been coaching the past few years?

 

He was at Ashland for several years. His last job was coaching at Bourbon Co. He did not coach this year.

Before Ashland he was at Holmes and even when in Ashland he spent a lot of time in the area. He is currently principal of the Northern Ky. Alternative School.

Jack of all Trades you have been on here pining for the 6th grade program. Also it seems many posters did not see Willie building the middle school programs. I can not say one way or the other but it seems to me that you couldnot make headway on a 6th grade program in the past so the change might benefit the younger programs............Agree? Disagree?

You are right nothing much done at Ashland either, Coach Flynn has lived off of the success he had while he was at Holmes!

Well if you look at the list of candidates that are posted I would venture to guess he has the most regional titles of any of the coaches. I would consider Willie's run at Highlands to be successful and he did not win a regional title. Not sure what criteria you are judging Coach Flynn on but he is a top notch coach.

How about what Coach Flynn has done over the last 10 years as a coach? Would that matter, I certainly think so!

The new coach will be introduced at the school tomorrow at 3:15 p.m.

Okay then what has Goetz Key Schlarman Kelley Carr Feldman Listermann Biggs done over the past few years???????? That is what would make any of those names (some candidates some not) better than Mike Flynn?

 

 

Mike Flynn would be a good choice but so would several of the other candidates. But to question him being a quality candidate and a potentially good choice is absurd.

I agree. I think he's a good candidate. I don't think he's that great of a coach, but he certainly isn't a bad hire.

Agreed! What were the talent levels of those schools? Players committed to basketball? Any other teams in the district or region that were just better?

It is not part of the hiring criteria. The fact that HMS does not have a 6th grade basketball team does not fall entirely on the varsity coach. There are and have been many obstacles in the past that have prevented this from getting off the ground, none of which have to do with the coach. I can tell you for a fact that if Mike Flynn and Jaime Richey want 6th grade boys and girls teams this upcoming season there is a very good chance that it will happen. Those parents interested in it happening have done all that they could and it is now in the hands of the powers that be in Ft. Thomas. I do not know Mike personally to answer whether or not he will get involved with the youth of Fort Thomas or not. A thing to remember is that the old Ft. Thomas Junior Basketball League was not started by the coaching staff at HHS nor by the city recreation department rather it was a group of men (Tom Morris, Dan Dougherty, George Simons and Pete Erschell) that were looking out for the youth of the city and their desire to become better basketball players. I know that the Ruth Moyer boosters have done a pretty good job of trying to recreate this type of league and only time will tell if it has any effect or not.

What does he bring to the table that Willie did not?

 

Willie gets hammered on here pretty much because he did not win the region, yet I will ask what year should they have won it and did not?

 

Just curious to hear peoples thoughts on the selection, if in fact it is Mr. Flynn.

 

Garbage! Flynn is a very good coach, about as good as there is in KY. He always had Ashland in the hunt in the 16th, even when they didn't have the most talented teams. Blazer ain't what it used to be as far as talent, but when he had some players they did go to the Sweet 16. As for Bourbon, I don't know, but I would imagine it's not exactly a talent hot-bed right now either.

 

What Highlands will get if they hire Flynn is:

1. A very good, respectable man to lead their basketball team.

2. One of the most intelligent coaches around.

3. The thing I like about Flynn the most is that he coaches from the jump ball to the horn at the end of the game.

4. I think he is adaptable, if his players can play an up and down type of game that's what he'll do, if he has size he'll use it, etc.

 

If Highlands hires Flynn they will be getting a very good coach, and Birds fans will not regret it.

The Middle School teams at Highlands have done very well the past 5-6 years ,If this is going there all the people that think the middle school teams are not getting it done you all need to go back and look at the records of the teams the past 5-6 years .I have talked to people and have watched a few games at the middle school I would say they are in the top 3 programs I think they are the ONLY team to knock off Holmes the past 2-3 years . I would leave the middle school alone it look fine to me alot of kids on the teams all looked very good . Highlands is in good shape .:ylsuper:
