Pearl is pretty entertaining. I liked this quote.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, while in Memphis on Tuesday, Pearl thanked new Kentucky coach John Calipari for getting he and his staff a bump in pay.

When John Calipari went from Memphis to Kentucky, Pearl was rumored to be tops on the Memphis shopping list.

When rumors swirled, Pearl renegotiated six-year deal, thickening wallets for him and his staff.

"I called Cal a couple of weeks after it happened and said, 'Listen, me and my staff just want to thank you because you helped us get a nice raise', " said Pearl, who was in Memphis on Tuesday as part of the annual Big Orange Caravan spring tour.

What a clown...

Pearl is an interesting guy to say the least! I believe a Pearl-Calipari rivalry will be a lot of fun!

Entertaining....yes! Quality Coach....doubtful, IMO.

Doubtful? He has completely turned UT around since he has been there. If he wasn't a quality coach UT would have probably still been at the same position as it was before he got there.

With the type of talent he's had he's underachieved in my opinion..

I disagree 100%.....he's brought in said talent....maybe they under-achieved last year, but jeez, they're in the discussion.

He sounds like he'd be a riot to have around. Outrageous, but in that way that is part truth.

They have yet to make it past the sweet 16. If UT is in the discussion, then Western Kentucky is one of the headliners.

Yes, because national titles are what makes a Tennessee men's coach successful.

What discussion? What headliners? All that was said was that Bruce Pearl has turned around the Tennessee program. Is that not true? They hadn't been to the NCAA tournament in five years before he got there. He's won five games in the tournament. Prior to him they had only won eight tournament games in their history.

Is he the greatest coach in the country? Not at all. Is Tennessee an annual contender? Not really. But absolutely nobody with any knowledge of past and present college basketball can say that Bruce Pearl hasn't done a good job in Knoxville.
