They hadn't been to the NCAA tournament in five years before he got there. He's won five games in the tournament. Prior to him they had only won eight tournament games in their history. Is he the greatest coach in the country? Not at all. Is Tennessee an annual contender? Not really. But absolutely nobody with any knowledge of past and present college basketball can say that Bruce Pearl hasn't done a good job in Knoxville. :thumb:

April 30, 200917 yr I think he has "elevated" the program by his antics. I just don't think he is a quality coach. Would he really be in anyone's top 20 of college coaches?
April 30, 200917 yr I know there are obviously different standards for UK basketball and UT basketball, but if Pearl has "completely turned UT around" and Tubby "killed" UK...that just doesn't make sense. Since the last banner-hanging ceremony, Kentucky has advanced to five Sweet 16s and three Elite Eights. They’ve captured four regular season SEC titles, along with four SEC Tournament championships. In that time frame, eight Kentucky players—Kelenna Azubuike, Keith Bogans, Joe Crawford, Chuck Hayes, Jamaal Magloire, Randolph Morris, Tayshaun Prince, and Rajon Rondo—have all cashed NBA paychecks. I don't have the time or energy to compare Pearl's accomplishments to that...either way, i'm sure he doesn't measure up at all. Of course now if we are talking rapping or going shirtless at the real UT sporting events, he is the best.

When I see someone taking the time to comprise factual stats to prove that their favorite team is more relivant than one that people are talking about, just says to me that they are jealous that someone other than their favorite team is being talked about. I do not remember ANY comparisons to othere schools or coaches being made when thi thread started, so why does anyone feel like they need to defend their school or coach? GO BRUCE, YOU ARE GREAT!

In their 4 or 5 head-to-head match-ups, Coach G coached CIRCLES around Pearl and it was OBVIOUS. My question is, if BCG was such an idiot, then what does that make Pearl.
April 30, 200917 yr How many UT coaches have lost their jobs because of not being able to beat UK? Hopefully, Pearl joins the lot eventually.....Just not too soon. UK still is the only team in the SEC with a winning record against the Orange Clad one. Folks, we have had some truly attrocious teams and have beaten Pearl regularly. I don't see UT in the same stratosphere with UK shortly. Let Pearl say what he feels he needs to say. Soon it will just be more hot air from a second tier team.....
