The side line Bleachers rolls in and the side goals are then put in place.

It reminds me a lot of Knox Central's gym. Very nice and a facility the community can be proud of!

 

It may be twice the size of Knox Central's gym. I liked the old KC gym better.

The side goals are on wheels, like the ones you see in the picture. Everything is movable.

 

Plus the concession area is large outside in the main atrium.

Harlan has an incredible new school to be proud of. The Gym is great. I can understand why everyone in Harlan wants to host the Region. BUT, IF the decision is made to take it to the Arena, I don't think that Harlan should be allowed to host in their turn. It wouldn't be fair to the other districts.

How much is the Arena rental fee and who does concessions? Will the additional seating be enough to offset the rental fee? Will the vote for this venue be dependent upon the smaller schools similar to the vote for drawing vs. seeding?

I'm still on the fence about this issue. I do think that gym capacity, parking, etc. should be considered before allowing a school to host.

Exactly, then back to square one. I don't think it is right to say that this place is perfect for the tournament, then turn around and say that parking would be an issue. If that is the case then Harlan County has the Arena in all categories.

 

Parking is sufficient and not far off.

Seating would be comfortable.

Air Conditioning.

Concessions accessible.

I do not have a dog in this, but have experienced a similar situation in the 10th region. The regional was always held, for 30 years, at Mason Co. This past year it was voted to have it at the BKO , NKU new arena. It was a neutral site, chair back seats, very nice arena, and guaranteed money. No empty the gym between sessions and air conditioned.

 

If you have the time you must go read some of those threads on where the 10th region will be held....unreal at the way some of the fans were complaining...mostly Mason Co fans. This thread has been very civil I must say. We at Clark Co had over a 2 hour drive, had the largest crowds there and loved it, no complaints from us.

 

Best of luck to everyone in this region. As someone stated in this thread....it should be about the kids and their experience and trying to make it to state. I have always felt that a neutral site is the best for all teams.

The new Corbin Arena is a much better located site for the vast majority of the Teams and their supporters of the 13th Region. I believe once the Harlan holdouts experience The Arena, they will be happy.

Actually, it's not that similar of a situation. The 10th region was holding their regional at Mason Co. every year, a very unfair situation to the rest of the region. Moving to a neutral site was a more fair proposal.

 

In the 13th, it has always rotated between schools (and towns) that have the larger facilities, at least one if not several schools per county.

 

For what it's worth, I would be against Harlan County monopolizing the tournament also.

All parking lots are not paved yet, I'm sure they will be long before the region rolls around. I understand were the Harlan folks are coming from, but The Arena is super nice and a great location.
