What was told at the meeting was that folding chairs would be placed on the floor WITHOUT ANY ELEVATION? Not perfect by any stretch. Also the first seat in the stands are a long, long way from the action, but the Arena is very nice without a doubt!

 

The seats in the stands are not a long way away. There isn't a bad seat in the house. Now, the floor seats you are right on.

Harlan County's gym doesn't take the cake .... that is HILARIOUS. It's nice, very nice, but not better than this place. Sorry.

The only way the Hounds or anyone will get to practice there will be if they pay a hefty penny, and I do mean a hefty penny. It's a BUISNESS, not owned by Corbin High School. If you read any of the story you would have known that they are going to make sure there is a stipulation in the contract that NO team (INCLUDING CORBIN) wouldn't be allowed to play or practice there.

 

And the answer two your second question is 'Yes'. I believe The arena will get the regional tournaments, that's just my opinion, BUT I also believe Harlan County will get its turn to host the event when the time comes. But that's just what I believe.

 

My opinion is that our gym does take the cake but if you don't agree so be it- no big deal or hard feeling! Your second answer is great as far as I am concerned. Sounds good to me!:thumb:

Difference of opinion I guess, but when I was there yesterday my first thought was this is a long way from the action. However, I will get my glasses updated before the region as long as we get our turn -I guess! lol :ylsuper:

One thing I have always loved about regional tournaments is the atmosphere. Fans are very close to the game action and it usually works well. The fans are just way too far away from the action. It would probably be good to try it there a year and see, but I don't like the set up.

The fans are right on top of the court once the floor seating is in place, I agree with you a bit on maybe the fans being closer to the action, but I'm sure they would rather not walk up 25 FOREVER and actually be in a place that doesn't have a split session and a nice air conditioner.

Will Harlan Co. practice in their gym the year they host the tourney? I'm sure that if this was a point of contention with the other schools that Corbin would agree not to practice in the facility. There is no guarantee that Corbin will make the region anyways, especially after next season.

Good point, but playing in a big arena like that if someone got to have a few practice sessions it would give them a big advantage. If you ever played B-ball you would know shooting the ball in a big arena is different than playing in a regular high school gym. I am not saying that Corbin would get to practice in the gym, but if ANY team did it would make a difference. The other answer to the question would be Corbin is a tradition rich program in the 13th region. I would bet you my house that Corbin will be in the tourney for many years to come.:thumb:

The facility, parking, accessibility, convenience (for the majority of fans), concessions, close restaurants and about anything else that you can think of makes this the best choice. Corbin wont be practicing there and unless the Varsity Club is able to afford moving the Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament there, Corbin and other invited 13th Region teams wont be playing any games there. If your school wishes to stay in the dark ages, then so be it. The University of KY's home court advantage never kept Gardner Webb or VMI from winning at RUPP did it? If Corbin played every home game there, it really wouldnt give them any advantage after the pre game warm ups are over.

I didn't quite understand the quote from NL's principal. The article says they are the next host but then he talks about wanting no team to have an advantage. Now if his school is hosting on their court wouldn't that be an advantage for NL?

If I was from Corbin, I'd want the regional there every year, too.

 

I don't know if I'd say everybody is stupid and in the Dark Ages who didn't agree with me though. Maybe I would though if I was looking down on the the second-class citizens who didn't have the good fortune to live in a cutting edge, metropolitan community like Corbin.

 

I wonder what Kentucky's winning percentage is at Rupp, since you brought that up. Are you saying the rest of the region has just as good a chance as Gardner Webb to win there?

Folks, The Arena is a BUSINESS, don't you understand? They are just not going to pay their workers to lay the floor down for Corbin and pay them again when Corbin is done for the fun of it. What part of that do you guys don't understand and in the story, Black said there would be a stipulation stating Corbin or any of the district tournaments could be played there. I'm sure practicing will be included.

Things change.... At first I didn't like the idea, but after I found out that Corbin wouldn't be playing or practicing there, then it's even steven. I mean only five region tournaments play at a high school now.
