Districts will stay at the respective schools. The region will be held at the Arena, end of story. It makes too much sense and the adminstrators in the region understand this much more than the others involved. The mighty dollar will drive this issue and in the end the best team will win the region regardless of the location. If playing at home determines the state champion then all high school teams are in trouble my friends. Nice seating, no staff involved in the process and the dollars will come flowing to ALL schools. Who could vote against this besides those wishing for some self serving reasons. It makes too much common sense to have it at a central location and the schools to make the most money possible. End of story.

Folks, The Arena is a BUSINESS, don't you understand? They are just not going to pay their workers to lay the floor down for Corbin and pay them again when Corbin is done for the fun of it. What part of that do you guys don't understand and in the story, Black said there would be a stipulation stating Corbin or any of the district tournaments could be played there. I'm sure practicing will be included.

Things change.... At first I didn't like the idea, but after I found out that Corbin wouldn't be playing or practicing there, then it's even steven. I mean only five region tournaments play at a high school now.

If I was from Corbin, I'd want the regional there every year, too.

 

I don't know if I'd say everybody is stupid and in the Dark Ages who didn't agree with me though. Maybe I would though if I was looking down on the the second-class citizens who didn't have the good fortune to live in a cutting edge, metropolitan community like Corbin.

 

I wonder what Kentucky's winning percentage is at Rupp, since you brought that up. Are you saying the rest of the region has just as good a chance as Gardner Webb to win there?

I doubt Coach P would want to give up the homecourt advantage by playing in the Arena vs Gillium gym for a regular season game at any rate.

Playing the 13th Region Tourny in the new Arena is a no brainer. The facility, parking, accessibility, convenience (for the majority of fans), concessions, close restaurants and about anything else that you can think of makes this the best choice. Corbin wont be practicing there and unless the Varsity Club is able to afford moving the Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament there, Corbin and other invited 13th Region teams wont be playing any games there. If your school wishes to stay in the dark ages, then so be it. The University of KY's home court advantage never kept Gardner Webb or VMI from winning at RUPP did it? If Corbin played every home game there, it really wouldnt give them any advantage after the pre game warm ups are over.

Good points but hopefully the people who makes the call will look closer at this deal and read some of the fine print. Check the NO STAFF INVOLVED/ AND THE MONEY --- They play a direct role. Check how the concessions and sales are done and then explain how NO STAFF IS INVOLVED?

To be honest, the I don't like it there doesn't matter ... it will be there next year, like it or not. Just my opinion.

I can certainly see how fans at the farthest reaches of the 13th such as Harlan and Clay would be against traveling 1.5 hours each way daily with no rotating years. I think Barbourville, Williamsburg, Pineville, and London would like to have the economic boost every few years. Meanwhile, Corbin is guaranteed no travel and Applebee's becomes a three hour wait.

This is not about Corbin, you me, Barney Fife or any one. This is about the student-athletes and if you want them to play in the best site around, then it's a no-brainer. Plus each school will benifit from this financially.

Well, if you read my post a little closer and some of the other posts about this subject, you'll see that ALL schools will share in the revenue each and every year. You will also see that I said that having the tournament at the new arena will be more convienient for most (not everyone)people. For 14 out of 16 teams (girls and boys) that participate in the Region Tourny each and every year as well as their fans, the Arena will be a more enjoyable experience before, during and after the game. The 2 teams that would have got to play on their home court may or may not feel that way. My vote is that majority rules. As for Corbin practicing on the new arena floor, they may get to but it will be because someone (private sponsor/donor) paid the arena management company a hefty sum to do so. Any team in the region or state would have the same right as Corbin.

Manchester is only 40-45 minutes from Corbin. I'm sure some of the other 50 or so restaurants could handle the overflow from Applebees.

Harlan County has an amazing new gym. It's hard for me to see the logic in never letting them host a regional tournament.
