Good story, but nothing has changed...it's the same old stuff people keep talking about. Why can't they just make a decision already?

From a neutral observer: While Harlan County's gym looks extremely nice for a high school gym it doesn't look nearly as nice as the Arena. Secondly the article mentioned that the Arena already has 1200-1400 parking spaces with 400 more nearly completed then is parking really going to be that much of a problem. If you figure 2.5 people per car then there is enough room for around 3800 people worth of cars. How many individual games bring in more than that during the normal 13th Region Tourneys? Also, what is the seating capacity of Harlan County's new gym, is it close to 7000?

Doesn't the majority vote decide the venue or in this case, change in venue?

I am from the 5th region so it dont matter to me. The biggest advantage that I see going with a large arena like this is that everyone gets in to see the game. Once in awhile at a high school gym they have to turn people away and that is truely terrible.

As far as the seating and parking etc.. thats a nice little bonus, but diehard fans are going to the game anyway.

What you get at the schools that you dont at the arenas is ATMOSPHERE! Someone posted some pics on this message board of the 9 or 10 regional tournment at the time in a big new arena, did a good job catching the action, you could clearly see the fans in the background, one thing they didnt catch was ATMOSPHERE, instead there was pics of the fans sitting on thier butt in that cushy seat with thier head on their hand, no standing up and cheering, even with oneof the pics showing a player dunking!

A pic is posted of this arena earlier in this thread and it looks like the regular seating is 50ft away from the playing floor, that is not exciting, for me noway would I want that.

For me the biggest factors are: not turning people away at the gate and ATMOSPHERE, not money, not comfort, dont get greedy.

Lets just talk common sense for a few seconds. I am from Corbin and have kids in the Laurel County system at South. I am very involved in sports in this area and have seen and talked with other people from throught out the state about the regional being played at a site other than a high school venue. First let me say I seen Coach Wright and Coach Snyders statemnet and what they had to say in the loacl paper last week concerning the Arena. I feel that the Coachs are being kind of, shall we say selfish for a lack of a better word. Moving the tournement to the Arena would take away more problems than it would create, my wife is an educator and we have discusse this between ourselves and with other cpuples who are involved and I am not just talking about teachers, but to make it very understandble to everyone the time of the year when this is held is always the testing time, that makes seven school days at the host school where all that goes on is planning for the nights event, a big distraction to each student in the school at a very important time in a students school year. This would take propblems away from athletic directors the only thing the schools and the athletic director would have to do is provide a tournement manager, this would take away the problems of ticket sales, pass gate managers, concessions, parking, hospitality rooms, and all other personel that the host school must provide it would all be up the management of the site and take it all away from the school or host school. Having the games at a site such as the Arena would have the student atheltes more ready to play the next week in Rupp or at Western Kentucky, the sessions would not be split, the seating is comfortable, the crowds are more controled and away from the players, coaches, and officials. This idea is a no brainer and if anyone would think of the benifits there would not be a question as to where to hold the regional. I have also heard the Corbin thing this will not be be a Corbin thing as to the fact I talked with one of the men who run the CFIT and he made the statement that the only way the that would even be played there is if the Atena wanted to buy the CFIT from the varsity club. It will NOT be Corbin HIgh Schools gym.

Next, every school will receive a cut from the tourney being held at the Arena. This is a great benefit to everyone. How much of the Regional money has Red Bird, OBI, or Williamsburg received from the region in the past 25 years. I don't know the total, but I dare say "Not much."

 

Furthermore, the CFIT will not be held at the Arena. Its simply too expensive for a tournament that is designed to be a fundraiser. The Hounds will only play there if they make the Regional and its held at the Arena.

I believe it would definitly be an issue if arena was in London. People would be just as upset over that as they are over Corbin.

I can tell you right now the CFIT won't be played there, it's not fair to the other 13th region schools who don't get invited to the Tournement. As for your other question...well I'm not exactly sure!:idunno:
