I am sure that the Arena management will purchase some risers to place the folding seats similar to those in Rupp Arena by the time the regional tournament will be held next March. It would be a simple issue to address along with the Pavement in the parking lots.

I would think the Arena will have other basketball events (not just the possible 13th region) or they would have never purchased the type floor they did. Therefore rising bleachers on the floor would not just be for one event.

I have never been there, but judging by the pics I would say they had truck pulls more in mind than basketball.

How will this vote go, does the majority vote win or what. I understand 3 or 4 schools not wanting the region there but what about the majority, would there be enough votes to pass this. Why do you doubt it, just wondering.

It is a "no brainer". Surely getting to host the tourny once every seven years or so, isnt going to cause a school to punish their fans for 6 out of those years? And yes, it is punishment to make your team and fans drive past Corbin (with some good restaurants too) sometimes a significant distance, fight for a parking spot, and wait outside til your team's turn to play while previous games' fans are being forced to clear the gym. Repeat again.

 

The concept of having several teams and their fans going to 1 beneficial location seems to have been proven to work...KY Sweet 16. It doesnt seem that any of the Fayette County Schools have a home court advantage when playing at Rupp?

Typically here lately Fayette Co. schools don't even get to play in the Sweet 26. There has not been a Fayette Co. school in atleast the last 5 years playing in Rupp. Harlan Co. really wants to host a regional tournament with their new facility. I think that would be a good thing for them. I will say this. Not having to travel to the regional tournament every year is an advantage for Corbin when teams like the Harlan schools have a long distance to go every year. Also, another theory is not to have it at the same place every year because the people running the facility take it for granted and won't do as good of a job puttin on the tournament.

 

Thats just me playing devil's advocate. There is a lot of benefits to it as well. The parking and a new facility is really nice. I hear the payoff for all the regional schools will be substantial as well. One other worry I did have in looking at the layout is it appeared the fans would be way off the floor. The excitement of a regional game where the fans are right on top of the action may not be matched.

Some schools are actively campaigning against it. I think the final result will come down to how these schools vote: Whitley Co., Jackson Co., Lynn Camp, Redbird, Pineville & Middlesboro. Of the others not listed, I'm guessing that it is pretty evenly divided on each side of the debate.

I think that it boils down to several questions......

 

Parking.....

Seating capacity........

Locker room facilities.......

NO SPLIT SESSIONS.........

Good for the schools.........

Good for the teams.........

 

I think that the Arena can answer all of these in the positive, while the schools cannot answer in the positive to every question. While I like the atmosphere at the schools, if every school regardless of participation can make money then I think it is good. Heck the last year Cawood hosted they reported that they made ZERO money. Love may be what makes the world go round but MONEY is the axis that it spins on. If it was not that way there would be no split sessions. Plus the arena will give them a feel for the big stage that they could play on later should they win.

How many people commenting on the arena have even visited it. I have, and like the set up. I think from my name it is safe to say I am not a Corbin fan, but the arena could be a positive to everyone in SEKY if people would just open their minds a little bit.

You must have missed something...The Arena has parking for about 2000+ cars (which are all on level with Arena) with another 1000-1500 space parking lot within site of the arena and busses available to transport from those sites, if needed. Parking is better at the Arena than any high school gymnasium in the 13th Region.

With exception of Middlesboro are any of those schools gym's large enough to host a region tourney?

I for one don't feel its fair for the city of Corbin to benefit from this tourney evrey year. I like the feel and atmosphere of the high school gym's, and hope it stays that way.
