What if the region splits all revenue, each school getting something (more if their team is playing in the tourney) and goes with this rotaion;

 

In no particular order

 

Harlan County

Knox Central

Clay County

North Laurel

South Laurel

Corbin at the Arena

Middlesboro

 

 

Middlesboro??? Their gym is ran down and parking horrible. Anyone remember the last Region held at the Boro? I do it was bad.

 

I like the idea of having it at the arena although I am not a big Redhound fan. Works for the 15th. Why can we not make it work for us? Too much bickering and selfishness.

 

Harlan Co. will get to host the district that should be good enough. Harlan Co. is pretty far off the beaten path for most 13th region teams. Just my opinion not a problem or complaint against Harlan Co. just my feelings as a basketball fan. Personally I can be to HC gym in 15 minutes Corbin 45 minutes but we need to do what is best for all parties.

I'm against it. Not the atmosphere of a gym. The place would look empty for most matchups, and the crowd is way to far from the floor. If more seating is needed, either only allow gyms of certain size to host, or move it to Cumberland's gym.

The place would look empty? Ummm, are we doing a photoshoot for some magazine, so you want it filled up? I just don't understand that, but to each their own. And, Way to far from the floor. I wasn't at the games last night, BUT during the Harlem Globetrotter event, there were seats on the floor? I'm confused.

By the way, IMO, it will be held there.

Now I am from NKy and really have no concern one way or the other but to think an Educator is implying that they built a $53 million dollar school to host a Regional Basketball tournament is laughable!

 

The entire quote

I’m protecting my businesses, my fans, my people and my ballplayers. I’m not out here doing this politically for this or for that. And after using My four times and our and we once each, he goes on to say "I'm not out here doing this politically for this or for that".

I think students fall under "our people". The point he was making is that we could have build a gym sized just large enough for regular season games and the district tournament.

 

Bob Howard is doing an excellent job at HCHS. People do not live here and see his everyday job you probably should not judge his qualifications based on one quote.

I think at some point a region needs to be held there, but I also think there should be other options available. Harlan Co. deserves to host it too. I don't think i should be set in stone to have it at the same place every year.

I don't think he meant it that way. He was just saying the nicest new high school in eastern Kentucky should have an opportunity to host a regional tournament. Some of our facilities were among the oldest in the state and now that Harlan County has finally caught up and moved ahead some are wanting to change the rules. They had a regional cross country meet there in the fall and have hosted many other events, but the regional basketball tournament is as big as it gets in sports in eastern Kentucky.

 

Bob Howard is a very good principal and has been a great leader during a difficult transition in Harlan County.

I don't think he meant it that way. He was just saying the nicest new high school in eastern Kentucky should have an opportunity to host a regional tournament. No one spends that kind of money to host a HS Basketball Tournament! Now to build a school to educate your children, that is another matter!

Les, It's not about the number of people there, it's about atmosphere. I don't think that the Arena would have the atmosphere of a school gym.

 

Also, I'd say people are ok with paying $3.75 for a pop at a Harlem globetrotters game, but not so much at a high school game.

All of these issues can be fixed. The arena needs a couple of things. First thing is to solve the seating. They need the movable stadium seats like rupp has. The seats that are on the floor that connect the perminent seats to basically right behind the bench. This would put a lot of people on the floor much closer to the game. They had cushioned seats on the floor but that is not going to be good enough for the region. It would be a shame to let this facility go unused for the region. I agree that Harlan Co. deserves the chance to host it some but the arena does as well. I hope the school administrators do the right thing and figure out what is best for the kids and the communities.

I've been to plenty of region tournament games and the atmosphere has been AWFUL .... it's only good when the games are close and the top rated teams are playing.

I meant the top rated teams.

Harlan County had one or two teams ranked near the top of the region a few years back.

They will again pretty soon.

 

The girl's team was in the region finals last year.
