There were some major parking problems at some of the early concerts held at the arena, some have been addressed and parking would not be nearly as big a problem there compared to the high school sites that have held it lately.

True, but the only "parking problems" encountered were the 4 events that were sold out resulting in 6,000+ people attending an event. I doubt that the 13th Region Tournament will have 6,000 people attending at any one session. If so, there is parking for 1500+ at the old car lots and Technolohy Center with busses used to transport folks from their cars up and down the hill. This has proved to work very well.

What if Bell, Knox, Clay, Whitley, S.Laurel, N. Laurel, Middlesboro want to host? Is it really selfish of them to say we want it at our gym?.:popcorn:

My point about Harlan County is they have the nicest high school gym in eastern Kentucky and it would be incredibly unfair for them not to get to host the regional. Bell, Knox, Clay, Whitley, South Laurel, North Laurel and Middlesboro all had chances to host when their new schools/gyms opened.

 

I can see the logic of them all getting to host. It would be fine with me though if Corbin and the Laurel schools and Knox want to have it at the arena.

Don't be suprised if there is a change in the current regional site selection process. The whole system is not working. It currently rotates between districts and what schools in those districts are able to hold it. Knox Central host it every time for their district because the rest of the teams dont have big enough gyms. In some districts 3 out of 4 teams can host. That is not fare and needs to be addressed. The best and only fair procedure is to rotate the regional tournament throughout the 17 member schools. If it is a smaller schools turn to host and their gym can't accomodate they can contract the arena or another member school to host the tournament. To me that is the only fair policy that includes everyone and it leaves the decision up to the schools.

What if the region splits all revenue, each school getting something (more if their team is playing in the tourney) and goes with this rotaion;

This would not address the problem of hundreds of students and fans getting turned away at the door for the semifinals and finals, which shouldn't happen.

Two years ago at Knox Central. Some were allowed into classrooms to watch it on computers, but they were not allowed into the gym.

What about those who were unlucky enough to have to sit in the aisles? For those who didnt get reserved seats and had to sit in the bleachers, they were packed in like a can of sardines, too. Those people would have appreciated more space... All seats at The Arena are premium chair seats with ample space for the "larger people".

I'm sure fans have been turned away but many more like myself dont bother with the hassle of going because of the situations at some schools.
