Track the Reds (Week 2)

Featured Replies

Actually, the best place in the lineup for a team's worst hitter is in the #8 spot ... that's where most American League teams put theirs, in some cases choosing to use the #9 spot for sort of a second leadoff man.

That being the case, it makes more sense to hit Owings ninth and leaving Gonzalez or Janish in the #8 slot.

Tony Larusa has notoriously batted his pitchers in the 8 spot in the line-up several times throughout his managerial career.

Dusty just thinks it will effect the mental preperation for the normal 8 hitter if he were to choose to hit the pitcher in front of him.

Owings can hit. I am really looking forward to seeing if the Reds can complete the sweep in tonights game!

Why not let him steal then put a hit and run on. I don't really see why you don't give him a chance to get into scoring position.

You're going to let him steal 2B and then put on a hit and run once he's on 2B? How does a hit and run play with a runner on 2B work exactly?

Anyone else rather see Janish playing SS and hitting 8th right now? Gonzalez has just not been getting anything done, and Janish is so smooth on defense. Also, Hernandez does nothing for us. At least Hanigan can throw out base stealers.

I think Gonzalez will get his stroke back soon.

Agreed. After all, he's been away from the game for 1 1/2 years. Sometimes you have to work your way back into form. We know for a fact Janisch can't hit. Gonzalez, however, has shown himself to be steady.

You can make a case for Hanigan, though.

Gonzalex is horrible, plain & simple.

I'd like to see Dusty go with the "hot bat" at SS at all times. Janish has been playing well, and has done what is asked of him (in terms of being able to drop down bunts). Let him get the majority of AB's until he starts to drop off, then let Gonzalex get the his AB's.

I see no reason to keep running Gonzalex out there on a regular basis. I do not think that his defense significantly better than Janish either.

I'd like to see Hanigan get some more AB's too, but I think we're committed to Hernandez...

Bottom line is the Reds are going to play the guys making the most money...

I'm sorry, but it's not that plain and simple. The numbers don't support your claim. In 2007 Gonzalez hit .272 with 16 HR and 55 RBI. Do you honestly think Janish is going to put up those kind of numbers?

Nope, but do you honestly think that Gonzalez will REPEAT those 2007 numbers?

Yes, if he can play at least 110 games then I think he can come close. He may hit closer to .255-.260, but I think he's very capable of hitting 15 homers or so, and driving in 50+ runs.

Owings struggling thru the 1st two innings, but the home plate umpire definitely isn't a pitchers ump. Very small zone so far.

Double play groundout for Gonzalez....

He hasn't played baseball in over a year it's going to take him some time to get there.

Just annoying because with this lineup, we can't afford to have someone in there who is 0/17 on the year. There is not as much time to wait on him to come around as there would be with a normal lineup.

I forgot to ask this last night.

Does Dusty think he might be called upon to pinch hit?
