April 16, 200917 yr Janish doesn't make that play. Agreed but he also might not hit into that double play in the 2nd inning.
April 16, 200917 yr I'm sorry, but it's not that plain and simple. The numbers don't support your claim. In 2007 Gonzalez hit .272 with 16 HR and 55 RBI. Do you honestly think Janish is going to put up those kind of numbers? I don't think Janish will put up those numbers; however, I think Janish is capable of hitting .250 or so. He doesn't have much pop, but he's going to hit 8th anyway. He'll play hard, provide very good defense, and he's a good handler of the bat. Gonzalex is not an asset at the plate. He's a career .247 hitter. He had a career year in 2007. Take a look at these numbers, and tell me what leads you to believe that he'll be able to produce this year: 2009 - 0 Hits in 17 At Bats. 2008 - Didn't play. 2007 - .272, 16 HR, 55 RBI, 24 BB & 75 K 2006 - .255, 9 HR, 50 RBI, 22 BB & 67 K 2005 - .264, 5 HR, 45 RBI, 31 BB & 81 K 2004 - .232, 23 HR, 79 RBI, 27 BB, 126 K - 3 Triples 2003 - .256, 18 HR, 77 RBI, 33 BB, 106 K - 6 Triples 2002 - .225, 2 HR, 18 RBI, 12 BB & 32 K in 42 Games - 3 SB 2001 - .250, 9 HR, 48 RBI, 30 BB, 107 K - 2 SB 2000 - .200, 7 HR, 42 RBI, 13 BB, 77 K, Career High 7 SB 1999 - .277, 14 HR, 59 RBI, 15 BB, 113 K, Career High 8 Triples 1998 - .151, 3 HR, 7 RBi, 9 BB, 30 K in 25 games. That's a career average of .247. Career OBP% of .295. As I type this, he did make one heckuva play at SS.
April 16, 200917 yr I'd like to add that I'm pulling for Gonzalex. As a Reds fans, we need him to hit at least .250 for us to contend. Either that, or take him out of the lineup. I'm not down on him for this year. I understand that it's a long season, and he'll get close to 400 at bats. 0/17 is a very small sample size, and it would be horribly unfair to judge him based on the games thus far; however, he's proven throughout his career that he cannot produce at the plate. Throw in an entire year off, and I just don't see how you can expect him to duplicate his career numbers.

He is still a bigger offensive threat than Janish.
April 16, 200917 yr Janish doesn't make that play. It was a great play. :thumb: But Janish may have been positioned deeper. No reason to make comparisons on each play. GONZALEX GETS AN RBI DOUBLE. :dancingpa
April 16, 200917 yr Gonzalez is an average hitter, and I think the numbers I posted are reachable. He is still a bigger offensive threat than Janish. They're reachable for anybody who is going to get 400 at bats, with a few exceptions. Those numbers would also make 2009 one of Gonzalex's best years ever, too.
April 16, 200917 yr It was a great play. :thumb: But Janish may have been positioned deeper. No reason to make comparisons on each play. :dancingpa Each play? That's the 1st play I've made a comparison.
April 16, 200917 yr Each play? That's the 1st play I've made a comparison. No, no, no, not you LRCW. I'm speaking generally. My (real life) buddies, to whom I've been ripping Gonzalex for weeks / months, say it all the time. Gonzalez is solid in the field, and has made some great plays. I expect him to continue to play well in the field; however, if you can't produce at the plate, you shouldn't be in the lineup. I'm not saying that Janish is a much better alternative. I just can't believe that so many people are sold on Gonzalez.
