McLouth with a 2 run bomb off of Cueto in the first to put the Pirates on top. Cueto had GOT to get a handle on giving up the long ball if he's going to succeed. He's got great stuff otherwise. But you can't give up homeruns at the rate he does and be a consistant winner.

My fantasy team really liked the 9 K's; but the 6 ERA, probable loss, and 1.5 WHIP hurt a little.

Therefore, I was very disappointed in Votto's effort on this play. When you're out by the proverbial country mile you don't slide into home plate and essentially give up.

 

You take the catcher out and see if he's strong enough to hold onto the ball. Even if you're out it sends a message to the rest of the team.

Jay Bruce made a bonehead play to end the game, not that it would have mattered.

I agree, and Votto dinged himself by wimping out. He goes in with purpose doubt he comes out the worse for wear.

I agree completely. People would be surprised what that little bit of an "attitude" can do. For beginners it can get your team fired up and ready to play. As well it can get the other team upset and concentrating on revenge instead of winning the ball game.

 

This type of play happened to me last week end playing Wright State. I made too big of a turn rounding third and couldn't get back to the bag so I just went for home. I was out by a mile but lowered my shoulder anyway. Sure enough at the end of the game I had been taken out high turning a double play, hit in the ribs with a pitch, and cleated when I broke up two but my team pulled away and ended up with big.
