Apples and Pianos......if a kid does something like that, he'll get kicked off the team. If a kid takes money from an agent, their lifestyle changes, you kind of notice those things. Besides kids have big mouths, people knew.

Ok... Rick did something way back in Hawaii as an assistant of some sort. Hasn't done anything illegal since, that we know of.

 

John has done nothing, that we know of.

 

So, looks like this is a pretty done deal. Both are clean and have had no violations in a long time (Cal 0). So, this whole thread is a waste of space. What we got was what Rick did while in Hawaii, and John not knowing about something. Both have proven that they are great coaches. Both have proven that they can "dance" with the best of them. And, both have proven that you can make a lot of money at their profession. :notworthy:

I can't envy stuff that happened before I was born....also I was 8 months old when they won in 1978.....like I said, the only team that I have ever viewed UK as the end all be all was from 1996 - 1998....

Appreciating history is one thing. I would like to have been a part of true historical events. Athletics would not be what I would call historical events that I would choose to be a part of over say, the discovery of electricity. The history that you speak of was a time when there were a limited number of athletic teams and not everyone was allowed to participate. This is not the type of history that I would choose to be a part of.

You don't have to like UK Basketball... You don't have to like the "envy our past" slogan. But please, don't just exclude those years because they were before you were born. UK fans are proud of their tradition... So let them enjoy it. If I were to do that, then Louisville would have ZERO titles because I was born in '87.

 

My sister was born in '94... So to her UK would have 2 championships to Dukes 1. Whose to really judge how far back we go?

I do appreciate history, real history...I spent the entire afternoon at the Henry Ford museum yesterday. However the bulk the UK's championships were well before changes in the game to the way we know it now.....Obviously they can't be taken away, but there is nothing there for me to envy.

I didn't say that when I was born was the beginning of time....it's just a point of reference....but in reality, I can't ENVY things that happened before I was born....

Well, to be honest, the way we know it now is from 1987 to today. Before then there was no shot clock and no 3 point line. (Actually shot clock was in '86)

 

So does that mean:

 

1982 UNC isn't all it is because the game is different?

 

1972 UCLA

1968 UCLA

1976 IU

 

would not really be worth mentioning?

You see San Francisco won 2 straight in '55 and '56 with Bill Russell and KC Jones. Do we discount those?

 

UK beat Temple and Seattle to win in '58 and those teams were led by Guy Rogers and Elgin Baylor. Does that make the cut?

 

Cincinnati and Loyola of Chicago won with a preponderance of African American players from '61 to '63. What about them?

You are bringing a part in that is way to much a stretch. It is like comparing Pro football players then and now. Baseball players then and now. Here again, not everyone was allowed to participate, so not a good guage. Ball parks were smaller, players were more out of shape. Players in the day played more positions than todays. Some leagues played 10 or 15 games compared to todays 40.

 

I would love to sit down and talk to Rupp & Wooden. If I were going to be blinded by an athletic past, UCLA's run would certainly be more impressive in my mind. But here again, only limited schools really participated in athletics. Not like todays. Louisville has a pretty rich history for an inner city school, as I understand it. So what? I was not around to see those games, those guys, thoses championships. Folks from another age had that enjoyment. I am enjoying now.

You choose to laugh and clap and cheer when U of L, experience a failure, and I don't. Then keep on keepin on. Im not sure why you lump me in with the group that celebrates and trashes UL. I root for UL when not playing Kentucky. It is good for the state of Kentucky to see UL do so well. I hope the girls whip UCONN tomorrow night. I choose to cheer for Kentucky. I didn't inherit anything. MY dad is a West Virginia Coal Miner who doesn't give a crap about college basketball. I CHOOSE to be a UK fan just like you choose to be a UL fan. Im not sure where you got that I was pushing you down and trying to stomp on you...
