Rather ironic, and hypocritical no matter how you try to spin it. UK in 1952-53 and "near" death penalty again in 1986-88. Link I haven't accused Cal of anything accept being shady. That has nothing to do with UK, I've thought it for years, I'm entitled to my own opinion right or wrong. But his antics of letting players beat woman, get arrested, all the entourages, and WWW are all shady to me. :idunno:
April 3, 200917 yr Inaccurate. I remember well the issues the Lexington papers and others had with what happened in Hawaii. However it was considered the past and while at UK Pitino didn't do anything that raised the ire of the NCAA. In fact what many might forget is the tale of Clifford Rozier. He was prize 6'9" post player who was transferring from UNC. He was considering UK very strongly and unfortunately he was taken by a then current UK player to Louisville for a Derby party. The distance violated an NCAA rule and Pitino informed the NCAA and immediately stopped pursuing Rozier. The young man ended up in a Louisville Cardinals uniform. I'm sorry, 35 years in between Death Penalty and "near" death penalty. The only major program to ever face such shame twice... Besides Hatz, you didn't want Rozier. He was very lazy and very overrated. Could not of played for Pitino.

If that is the only mark on Coach Cal's record, then that is a pretty rock solid resume if you ask me.

I agree, it has a very impressive resume. Like I said before, I think he's shady. That's my opinion and I've had it for years, right or wrong, fair or unfair. I think most people, nationally, have that opinion of him. Maybe now that he is working in the state I'll see more of him and change my mind.

Thats it.Actually, the "death penalty" is just for the specific program involved. SMU still had other sports operating when the football team disappeared for a couple of years.
