If Smith doesn't play, and the job goes to Roman, then who will be the backup when Corbin goes up by 40?

Roman will get the job done if he is indeed the QB. I don't think you will see as many different offensive sets and formations as you have had in the past, but scaling back may not be a bad thing.

Was Mitchell the quarterback on the JV team last season? If so, he's got some serious play-making ability. He made some spectacular plays in the JV game against Somerset. Of course his athleticism worked against him on some plays, kind of in a Favre type way, when he tried to keep a play alive and threw when he shouldn't have. The Jumpers won 46-40 in overtime and the Hounds quarterback was the main reason they stayed in the game.

That was a fun game to watch. Mitchell struggled early and threw 4 or 5 picks for the game but he was running for his life most of the night. When he got time he picked the Jumpers apart. My son was a freshman offensive/defensive tackle and after the game, even though he was happy with the win, he kept talking about how he had the quarterback in his sights all night but never could hit him. The Hounds O-Line had a bad night but their skill position players were very impressive. The kids that will be Juniors and Sophmores for Somerset and Corbin have had some very fun games to watch over the last few years in middle school and on the JV level.

The Favre comparison is pretty accurate. Sometimes good things happen and sometimes bad. I feel whoever is taking the snaps will have the task of handing the ball off to a talent backfield and will not be called upon to put the ball in the air often this season. With the horses in the backfield the Hounds should be about 90 percent run game and 10 percent threw the air. If the line can open some holes, there is nothing wrong with that at all. Roman or Travis are both capable of doing the job via the ground game. Giving up points on the defensive side of the ball might be the biggest challenge this group of Juniors and Sophomore will face as they progress in their careers. Somerset has some fine young talent and seems to be doing a great job of keeping them interested in the sport of football. I look for big things for the Purple and Gold in the next two seasons.

Corbin has watered down their schedule somewhat. Playing teams like Harlan should assure them of some easy wins

What purpose did this post serve? Corbin has plenty of tradition and will have a very nice team this season. They are a factor in Class 2A and will be for the next few years for sure. As long as that is the case I don't think they have to justify their schedule to anyone. Why the slap at a team that is 2 classes below yours? Should they have to justify their program through Bell County?

If you want to look at the facts Corbin actually has too many boys to be in 2A. All that was posted on BGP a while back. Actually the number of boys Bell Co. has and the number of boys Corbin has isn't far off. I am simply saying Corbin's schedule is set up for easier wins than in the past.

So since the Redhounds don't play in your class and don't appear on Bell County's schedule why do you feel the need to continue to take shots at them? Should they be required by law to play the Bobcats? I would think that Coach Jewell's job should be to be as successful in class 2A as he can be and I don't think that has anything to do with how he does against Bell County does it? If the numbers are that far off then why is Bell County in 4A instead of 3A? The Bobcats are a state title level team in their class, do you have to justify your program through getting to play Corbin? I'm guessing no so just let it go.

I had no intentions of bringing up Bell Co. in this thread? I just think they are going in a little bit different direction with their scheduling. For a few years there they got beat a lot of games in their out of district schedule and this will help them have a better record consistently.
