They could sure use some depth on the line, maybe some of the younger players will be ready to contribute. I think that their lack of depth on the line has really hurt them the last couple of years when they got deep into the playoffs.

I agree and sometimes wonder what adjustments could be made to encourage more big kids to play the sport. Not sure if it is the middle school program, the dedication factor or the times we are living in these days. Seems Bell County does a great job of keeping a solid line each year and their success is well documented. A moderate backfield can gain yardage if the big hawgs up front can win the battle of the trenches on Friday night. It is hard to win State Championships with 5'9 180 kids blocking on the line of scrimmage.

Hey 4chs, Kyle West broke his leg last year, do you know if he is going to be able to play this year. The kid passes the look test and I hear he has put up some good numbers in the weight room, he is suppose to be benching something like 270. If he can play he could make a big impact next year.

I agree with you. An average backfield can excell with a good quality line. I believe that most schools have plenty of skilled players. Kids want to be the stars now a days instead of playing for he the love of the game.

He played basketball this year and didn't seem to be having any problems...I haven't thought about him being able to help Corbin on the line this year, but he sure could!:thumb:

How will the Hound offense look?

RB- Fritts

RB- Taylor

FB- Watkins

QB- Smith

TE- Manns

WR- Fredricks

OL- Morris

OL- Lewallen

OL- Mills

Foley and Vorbeck will have to play somewhere as skilled positions. Who will be the other offensive line players? Sowders has some ability as a wideout and Smallwood as a tightend? McDaniels and Mitchell could provide a spark as well somewhere on the field when the Hounds have the ball.

I would guess the offense may look like this:

RB - Fritts

RB - Watkins

RB - Taylor

QB - Mitchell

WR - Frederick

TE - Manns

OL - Lewallen

OL - Morris

OL - Mills

OL - O'Kuma

OL - Howington

That looks like a solid unit 4CHS, now if they can fill in the other spots with some good backups the Hounds should put lots of points on the board. I think this will be an exciting team to follow this season.

They just have to figure out the line situation and they'll be fine...Which Corbin always manages do so when the season gets underway. Also they have to figure out who the QB is going to be as well.

I agree. You can always count on Coach Jewell to develop good linemen!:thumb:

The QB position is up in the air as of now. Roman is the better athlete and faster runner, over Smith. The real question is, will Smith even play football? some says no, because of his knee surgery last season. Some say yes because he can start right away.

If Travis ends up playing football, how will it effect him in basketball? I'm not certain, but IMO, I don't think Coach P really wants to him to play football.

It should be left up to the kid whether he plays football or not. No coach should try to discourage a kid from playing multiple sports. However, I know for a fact that Coach P does.

What I have seen and heard he has no bad effect from the knee injury. I talk with Travis he has told me and i did'nt know this but the knee he had surgey on was from a basketball injury late in his 8th season but he said it feels fine and he plans on playing football now that is what he has told me but we will have to wait and see. I think Roman can do well at QB but I would like to see Smith play because I think Roman can be a special player else where on this team he has a lot of ablity do other things on a football field where I think Travis is just a good QB and he could be very good at it just will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Anyone know how Fritts and Foley are recovering?

I expect Roman Mitchell to be the QB, with his competition coming from someone other than Travis Smith.

It is extremely difficult to play and excel in three sports in high school. I can't see him giving up baseball since that may be his best opportunity to play at a high level in college..............I see basketball winning out over football at this time if a choice has to be made.

I think Roman has payed his dues and deserves to start, however I believe Roman has the starting job until Smith or whoever else can beat him out.
