2009 Corbin

Featured Replies

There has been more Division 1 football players to come out of Corbin than D1 basketball players in recent past. Can you tell me the last D1 basketball player to come out of Corbin? (And its my hope that Josh Crawford will be one of them). There are more scholarships to go around in football than basketball. Besides its not just D1 that offer money for college. I can't remember one D1 basketball player to come out of Corbin in the last 40 years.

Other than Coach P, he signed with LSU and Isiah Mills, Tenn Tech I would say you are correct. Neither of these guys finished up at those schools, so that does not count in my orginal question. But both guys signed full rides and that has to count for something. They were not walk on or anything like that.

I thought that Coach P went to Tennessee as a walk on instead of LSU for a full ride . . . signing to play at a school is a big deal wonder why neither finished up. But, all that aside, there are simply a lot more football scholly's to go around than basketball scholly's and I hope Josh Crawford lands one.

I think these kids should play as many sports as they want and are able to play. I remember Greg Duncum telling me once that he couldn't tell a could that he shouldn't play any other sports when he himself played 3 when he was at Corbin (football, basketball and baseball). They can only be teenagers once, ... let them enjoy it.

Some of the states best were multi-sport players. Chris Lofton comes to mind, Montrel Jones, maybe Brian Brohm, and many others. One can be good at more than one sport. The best athlete I have seen in the last decade at Corbin played baseball and football.

Who would that be?

Who would that be?

Yea that kinda makes me wonder too???:idunno:

I think the last D1 player from Corbin was Corey Sears and he went to UK to play basketball, but I think thats all he played at Corbin.

As far as pure athleticism, Bram Hoover. He had the opportunity to play at basically any school he wanted, but he chose to pursue other things after high school.

As I hear he's very successful!!!:thumb:

Corbin will have a very successful season with the talent they have coming back in the skill positions. I would like to see Travis at QB next season. He has a great eye at the position and would help open up some running lanes for the big boys in the backfield. It will be great to see Fritts and Watkins in the back field once again. Taylor and Foley will be great options as well.

If the line can come around it will make a huge difference, but Corbin always finds kids that can fill those positions. Manns, Mills and Lewallen will help.

As far as Coach P telling his players not to play football, I just don’t see it happening. Off the top of my head I remember Steven Cook, Brad Lawson, Ryan Tate, Josh Ware, Jeremy Brock, and Clint Cashen all playing major roles for the basketball team and they all where predominantly “football players”. Manns pretty much started from the day he came back out to basketball. When did Caleb get cleared to play? It would have been extremely hard for anyone to break into the rotation Corbin had this season, much less a kid like Caleb that was hurt half the season.

Is Corbin's coaching staff going to remain intact?

I think he is paying his dues and moving on up the ladder...in that business. It is pretty cut-throat out there.

Caleb was cleared to play mid January. Just about 2 or so weeks after the football boys got back. He never ever expected to start but surely he could've contributed at least in games when we killing teams by 40+ points. But instead he chose to play younger players. . . even after he had told Caleb he would be used. It really doesn't matter now, Caleb is fine with football and baseball.

I think so, but I also heard Coach Duncum wasn't gonna coach this year!
