Coach P is never going to admit publicly that he is prejudiced against football players, but just look at the past and present with what he has done with them. I know for a fact that Caleb Watkins tried to back out of basketball this year knowing that they had a group of talented players. He told Coach P that he felt like he would be wasting his time. Coach P told Caleb he would play and be a help to them . . . that they really needed him, however, that was not the case. Caleb knew he would never start but he thought he would get minutes above freshmen and sophomores, but Coach P chose to sub in the younger boys for whatever reason. So, long story short, Caleb is just going to stick with football and baseball next year where he feels he can actually help the team and be utilized. Hey, facts are facts and Coach P does not like football players who continue to prepare by lifting and such through basketball season . . . kids who will contribute in football must prepare by lifting through the off season if they want to stay competitive. But if a kid is athletic, and can help you out, he shouldn't be penalized because he/she is trying to keep in shape for the other sports they play. And yes, Coach P has been relatively successful but he has had talented teams that didn't require much coaching . . . they had/have basketball instincts that win the games and it just comes automatically. He has been lucky that way. Next year it looks like he will still have a great nucleus of players and have a chance once again to make "the dance." Only time will tell, we wish the team the best.:thumb:

Will Corbin strenghen up their schedule this coming year? Maybe even play some tougher local competition?

I'm pretty sure they picked up Danville and Harlan. I believe they kept the series with LCA, not sure about the remainder of the non distict schedule, although I would think that North and South Laurel will stay on it.

I agree. There was a lot of talent on this past season's team and many being told just how good they were. Yet they played most of the season as a 'team', not just a collection of individual players. That is the job of a coach, and I thought he did a very good job.

Coach P is Hard working coach. He always has his players well prepared.

Travis probably does not want to say because if he does (and he is going to play) Coach P will not be happy. He tends to penalize football players. He refuses to use most of them even if they could help him out. (Notice I said most, he told Aaron Manns if he played football he would lose his starting spot ---- he couldn't keep that up for long though, cause he needed him too bad.)

Well, I am good friends with Aaron's parents and Aaron, his dad, and step mom says that Coach P did everything in his power to try to discourage Aaron from playing football including holding his starting spot over his head. Isaac Wilson went in with Aaron to tell coach that they both were going to play football and as soon as Isaac heard Coach P say that Aaron would not start he (Isaac) changed his mind and left. So, that is from the horses mouth himself. Anyway, this is a football thread so we better stick to how Aaron can help us next year in football. The basketball team is finished for the season and we can just wish the boys the best for next year. Coach P doesn't like his players playing football so he will have one less football player to worry about next year and that should make him happy.:walk:

Corbin has been known for its Football for over 100 years. To win State Championships at a school this size you must get every "Football Player" to play and be dedicated. Clyde Burchette once told me "Baby, you win with studs. We used to get every stud in the school to play Football." That makes a lot of sense! Corbin will never get past New. Cath if they don't get a better passing game. A kid like Wilson and Manns can contribute to this. I love Basketball, but you only get 4 years of high school sports. Parents please encourage your student-athletes to play whatever they want. I understand this is the era of people choosing particular sports for college. When you look at some of the best players even at Kentucky in the past they were 2 to 3 sport stars. It seemed to work out for them. IMO I would love to go back to high school and make some different decisions!

I don't think see a coach saying you will start if you don't play and won't start if you do play football. I could see a coach saying that playing football will hurt your playing time in basketball. Heck if there is a deep playoff run you miss a month and a half or more of practice. But I don't know why any coach would have their starting 5 picked before football season. That just doesn't sound accurate.

I knew of the "studs" that Corbin had back in the early 90's. I remember watching Brent Canady compete for a state championship, just like myself. Having known Brent personally, I would put everyone on notice to some relatives of his that will be coming up through the Corbin program. I think they are his nephews of his and based on tape that I saw of them, I'd be surprised if you all have a future Mr. Football on your hands. I now coach at a school in a small community and we would be so much better if we could get some players to play multi-sports. So I understand the viewpoints as a former 3 sport letterman in high-school, 2 sport letterman in college, and as high-school coach now.

He was the only Canady to play at Corbin, the other 2 went to Knox Central.
