I didn't read this particular article so it may already say this.

The team that lost had a 10 point lead. To say this T cost them the championship is more than misleading.

The negative in this story is that the uniforms have been worn all year without anyone telling them they were illegal. That put the ref in this game in a bad spot. IF it had been me I'm just "guessing" I would have been preoccupied with other pre-game issues (counting players, making sure the headbands were legal, numbers were legal, undershirts were legal, and also checking my surroundings) that I would have "failed" to notice.

Again, it would be a copout to use the T as an excuse. The article I read even had a quote from a clear-thinking player that the T did not cost them the game.

Blaming the loss on a one point technical is worse than saying, we lost the tipoff and they scored. That would be a two or three point differential.

Clyde how can you say that the "T" was not the cause, they lost by one point.

The only way it could be the reason they lost is if the T was given at the end of the game.

They had four entire quarters to make adjustments to their situation. The T wasn't a surprise at the end of the game. The coach coached to the situation. He had a 10 pt lead. His team lost the lead. Now we're going to blame the T?

The game is not played/coached in a vacuum.

I think the rule is ridiculous ... the stripe doesn't cause the number to be obscured or anything.

But the rule is there. The IHSA has said it informed North Lawndale in the past that the uniform could be an issue. North Lawndale was told it could wear any uniform, as long as it met the National Federation rules.

North Lawndale's coach, an interesting dude, chose to take the technical, so they really don't have much of a complaint.

Again, though, if I'm the IHSA, I let it slide ...

This wasn't even the most interesting sidelight to happen to North Lawndale this season.

One of their starters was shot in the leg after a game this season, another incident in a growing problem of violence associated with Chicago Public League games.

Another starter was suspended for allegedly cheating on a test, sued the school and was granted a court injunction allowing him to play in the postseason.

Their black undershirts are also illegal. If they were going to T for an illegal uniform, they should of made them take off the illegal (wrong colored) undershirt. Why enforce one silly rule and let the one everyone can see go? Deesn't make much sense to me, but I do agree the T did not cost them the game. They had the lead and blew it, happens all the time.

Rules are rules are rules are rules. The tech was given at the beginning of the game and according to the article they gave up a huge lead in the fourth quarter which cost them the game . To say the tech at the beginning of the game cost them the game is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Maybe next year the coaches will take a look at the rules on proper equipment before buying new uniforms!

If the technical cost them the game, then the coach, not the official, should feel really bad. He is responsible, not the official that enforced the rule. Once we give officials the free pass to choose which rules they want to enforce and which ones they don't, then all of the rules are useless.

I do agree with the poster that said one of the officials in the regular season should have T'ed them up early on and then the issue probably would have been addressed.

However, in the grand scheme of things, that one point (doesn't say if the team scored on the ensuing possession granted after the technical) is no more significant than any missed free throw, any failure to block out, or any turnover.

Back in the early 80's I was caught dunking during warm ups as the refs were coming onto the floor and was assessed a "T" to start the game and the Christain County player dropped 2 free thows. Needless to say it turned out to be my worse nightmare! In the huddle, Coach Hallmark said "we had better not lose by 2 son" and we lost by "1". I felt really stupid and the entire city said we lost because of the techincal, so I can see where people are coming from albeit a different situation.
