The parking garage on the top level should be one way only, cars going both ways on top made navigating a little dangerous. Like I said on another thread, until they remodel the fieldhouse and put chair backs in lower seating bowl, they should have it at NKU. An 2 hours drive (hour each way), is worth the wear and tear on my back and bottom for about an hour and half worth of sports entertainment.:thumb:

I agree with one of the posts above that the three venue rotation is the best way to go about things in this region with it all spread out and no large venue located in the the middle of it. Rotate it between Mason, Montgomery, and BOKC each year.

Pros: Awesome Arena, Awesome seats; there is not a bad seat in that house.

Based on my observations of the Bluegrass-Buckeye games at the BOKC and my experiences from having played at the Cintas Center and attending Ohio Sectionals held at the Shoemaker Center, I stole a line from a 10th Region hard-liner, who will remain nameless, and declared that the BOKC "ain't high school and sure isn't the 10th Region."

 

After attending each 9th Region game and 10th Region game played here over the past week, I've come to the conclusion that "we aren't in Kansas anymore" and that the BOKC did provide a fitting setting for the 10th Region Tournament. It housed a 10th Region Championship game, attended by a huge partisan 10th Region crowd, despite the early 6pm start time, traffic jams on US27, and long lines for tickets. I think the place acquitted itself well, and may well have helped the 37th District shed a bit of our past reputation as Yankees and Carpetbaggers and softened the overall perception of what the 37th District has to bring to the table. Perhaps we've brought something new and fresh to our storied region, something that the teams, coaches, and players of the 10th will actually look forward to every four years, despite the premiums spent in milage and travel time, ticket costs, and concession rates. I even think that perhaps the ticket costs and more favorable scheduling might be better negotiated (with at least students and young children getting a break) now that the tournament has shown an ability to reap a profit. I can't see how the 9th Region Girls could have possibly enjoyed their experience playing before 8,000 empty seats every night, and might be willing to take their show back to a major high school setting, while still sharing in some of the profits from the boys tournament. Sheer speculation.

 

We are a house divided and always will be due to the geometric layout of our region, so perhaps biting the bullet and establishing the three venue rotation will bring some degree of compromise to our ranks, while still maintaining the tradition and history of the "former" 10th Region.

Good post, 'stang. We all can nit-pick about a few inconveniences; but many of those can be dealt with. My only real issue with the whole thing was resolved prior to the tourney - broadcasting.

 

Parking: I parked in the lot behind the garage. Easy in, easy out.

 

Concessions: I didn't buy any. Ate at LaRosa's after last night's final; $13 and change for 2 spaghetti dinners, salads and garlic bread.

 

Tickets: Got 'em for round 1 and round 2 at Maysville Kroger. Got 'em for the finals at halftime of the second-round game and wound up in the second row. I do wish that schools could sell tickets to avoid mixing fans from that were competing against each other, but that's no biggie. Discounts for students would be appreciated, I'm sure. Our seats last night were in a section with almost all Mason County and Holmes fans; I enjoyed talking to the Holmes folks a lot.

 

Traffic: Here's a helpful hint. For those traveling on 27 from the AA to the BOKC, get in the RIGHT lane, turn right at the BP (where you would turn left into the main NKU entrance). Turn around, get gas, eat some cheese crackers, whatever. Then exit and cross 27. Much faster when traffic is backed up.

 

Atmosphere: Much better for the 9th final than the 10th; the place filled up nicely as the evening progressed.

 

Arena: Very nice venue. Would I rather drive 3 miles to Mason County? Sure. Am I willing to drive 54 miles? Absolutely. Do I still think that a high school with a central location in the region is best? Yep. Is it a deal-breaker for me that the BOKC is not? Nope.

Nothing against GRC and Mason, who both ALWAYS have had fantastic crowds in all the years I have attended 10th region tournaments and were fantastic again last night, but does anyone think the 10th title game atmosphere would have been better if one of the 37th district teams, or even Pendleton Co, would have been playing last night?

I wouldn't say that after the Holmes game last night. It took at least 20 minutes to get out of that parking lot. That was my only problem. BOKC is a great venue to play basketball otherwise. All praises go towards NKU and the 10th region.

The back way is useful, only problem is when you make the turn to go towards the BOK, there is a drive that runs next to the parking garage,Education Building, and power plant. I think it is shortly after the raised sidewalk on the left. Take that route and go by the power plant to get to the new garage that is next to the BOK.

It is a nice neutral court and a nice arena. I have no problem with the drive as some school will always have a long drive at Mason or Montgomery also. They do need to work out the seating arrangements better to get fans from the same school together. After attending all 10th region games I still think the ushers need to relax and ease up some. The concession food was good but a little more pricey than other arenas that I have been to lately. We had no problem with parking or traffic. All in all a positive experience and hope that we can have some more regionals there in the future.

The arena is fantastic....a great place to watch a game. I had no problems at all getting in or out, however, I parked in the premium parking lot next to the arena and not in the garage. Also loved the opportunity to get to watch two regional finals on the same night.

 

The drive from Mt. Sterling was very long, but it would be hypocritical to complain about the long drive and then expect fans from the 37th to make the drive to Mt. Sterling when Montgomery hosts. Concessions were a bit pricey but they did have a nice selection. The biggest thing lacking for me was the atmosphere you get with a packed house at a high school gym. Simply no way to create it in a larger arena. It's the same way in the 16th at MSU.

 

All in all, I'd say good job. :thumb: I would be in favor of a 3 year rotation between the Fieldhouse, Montgomery Co., and BOK at NKU. I think that would be the best and most fair scenario for everyone.

If the rotation is 37-38-39-40, how would the rotation work if Montogmery and Mason had it on the years their district was to host.

To tell you the truth, I was one that wasn't to crazy about having the regional tourney at NKU. I grew up attending every regional tourney at the Fieldhouse thinking that there was no way this great region could ever move the tourney anywhere else. But after this week my thoughts of the tourney at NKU did a complete 3-60. Don't get me wrong, attending the regional at the fieldhouse is truly something special and I will be looking forward to the tourney coming back to Maysville, but that arena at NKU is a beautiful place and I thought it was a COMPLETE success. Will be looking forward to the tourney coming back around to the BOKC once again. Great job guys!!:thumb:
