Based on my observations of the Bluegrass-Buckeye games at the BOKC and my experiences from having played at the Cintas Center and attending Ohio Sectionals held at the Shoemaker Center, I stole a line from a 10th Region hard-liner, who will remain nameless, and declared that the BOKC "ain't high school and sure isn't the 10th Region."

 

After attending each 9th Region game and 10th Region game played here over the past week, I've come to the conclusion that "we aren't in Kansas anymore" and that the BOKC did provide a fitting setting for the 10th Region Tournament. It housed a 10th Region Championship game, attended by a huge partisan 10th Region crowd, despite the early 6pm start time, traffic jams on US27, and long lines for tickets. I think the place acquitted itself well, and may well have helped the 37th District shed a bit of our past reputation as Yankees and Carpetbaggers and softened the overall perception of what the 37th District has to bring to the table. Perhaps we've brought something new and fresh to our storied region, something that the teams, coaches, and players of the 10th will actually look forward to every four years, despite the premiums spent in milage and travel time, ticket costs, and concession rates. I even think that perhaps the ticket costs and more favorable scheduling might be better negotiated (with at least students and young children getting a break) now that the tournament has shown an ability to reap a profit. I can't see how the 9th Region Girls could have possibly enjoyed their experience playing before 8,000 empty seats every night, and might be willing to take their show back to a major high school setting, while still sharing in some of the profits from the boys tournament. Sheer speculation.

 

We are a house divided and always will be due to the geometric layout of our region, so perhaps biting the bullet and establishing the three venue rotation will bring some degree of compromise to our ranks, while still maintaining the tradition and history of the "former" 10th Region.

I think Mustang pointed out in an earlier thread that the 10th region had done a better job on doing the extras, programs, t-shirts, etc.

I was sitting in a parking garage for about 30 minutes. I think the cops were stopping traffic and giving priority for certain areas to clear out first.

 

 

Then might it have been fans/cars trying to get into the parking lot and out at the same time? I have never had a tough time getting into or out of the BOKC after an event.....

I think the setting at BOKC is fantastic. I would like to hear from the players that played and see how they liked the experience of playing in a 'big league' environment.

 

I must say that the padded seats was alot nicer than sitting on benches in a high school gym.

How did everyone like playing all four first round games on Saturday?

 

It was a huge success in the 16th region as well.

the 10th region tournament was fun - the players were on a big stage and will never forget it, the cheerleaders were smiling tumbling throwing rhymes and the rival crowds exploded on the big shots, the ball rarely floated effortlessly in the championship game but two contrasting halves made it entertaining and change of fortune shots by both teams were to bring the fans to a few loud roars, the seats oh yeah those seats - they are comfortable, the food is good the parking and inandout accessibility are excellent, nku is a fine facility and the bank of kentucky center is the best venue around for alot of reasons ...

 

okay the cons ... there is nothing as exciting as a sold out house for the finals with cars parked in the grass and people packed to the rafters in a high school gymnasium in the 10th region ... and even though the pizza might not be donatos and there are only hot dogs not brats and mets the sounds are louder the band is closer the temperature is higher and the atmosphere is all high school 9-12 not so much university ... it feels tighter and closer to the real game at the high school locations ...

 

overall 7.5 out of 10 for BOKC and NKU ... great arena just not H.S. ... save the university / large venue / UK atmosphere for State ... go royals !

Tell that to the Scott, Campbell County, and Brossart who always have a long travel for 3 years out of 4.

 

I think the southern schools can oblige and just come up once every 4 years, there is no harm in that whatsoever.

I haven't either, until last night. But that was also the first time I had to park in a garage. In the future, I'll make sure I get their a little earlier to avoid parking in the garage again.:ohbrother:

Other than the drive, I loved it. And the drive would not have been bad if it had not been for that one stretch of construction on I-75. But what is I-75 without construction. A true champion was crowned without any home court advantage. And by what I read in another thread, it helped playing on the college size floor. Changes the way the game is played. Now the winner will be ready for Rupp.

Fantastic venue for the 9th and 10th finals. I heard the lower bowl held 5,000 so they had to have at least 8,000 paid between both sessions. As full as it was for the 2nd game, keep in mind a lot of Mason and GRC folks had already left. I know the 9th is looking to repeat the championship game there for next year. I'm not sure if they will draw the same crowd without the 10th being there.

I just hope the 9th continues to have success at the BOK and when it comes around for the 37th district out of the 10th region to choose venues they work out the same deal they did this year and there is another exciting double header.

Congratulations to Ron Madrick of Holmes and Anthony Strong of Campbell County for hosting 2 huge successes in 1 great place!!

Pros- Very nice place to watch a game...seats comfortable and no bad seats to watch game. Could see score board from ALL seats. Easy time parking and getting out.

 

 

Cons- $3.00 for a luke warm bottle of water was not really a good deal. Drive was more than I would have liked to make. Having to sit with hostile crowd during game was not fun! (If that woman had kicked my seat one more time!)

And of course being on the losing end didn't help!:cry:
