The 10th Region tourney is complete, what were the Pro's and Con's

Featured Replies

Pendleton County is always good for 2000 fans.

No doubt....and I am not sure what the number was for Mason and Clark fans, but they brought big groups last night. Reason I was asking was because I am sure there were a lot of local, neutral fans who just enjoy basketball who came out to the game because they were more familiar with Holmes and Boone Co schools, or may have had some connection with the schools in the past, and not so much GRC and Mason?

I have indirect connections (where I atended school, parents taught, family attended, etc) probably with 8 schools spread out over the 8th, 9th, and 10th regions, so I would have been interested in all three of those....but I might not have been so interested in another region? Just a theory.

Many, many neutral Northern Kentucky politicians and businessmen were hanging out in the "Vault" last night. These were folks who were attending the event because it was being staged in their backyard. The team of Tony Bezold and George Schneider commented that they hadn't attended the 9th Region tournament in years, because of parking, seating issues at Conner, Holmes, and at Ryle and were happy to be back attending the tournament. I observed many folks, including my good friend Jim Gastright who attended every game of both tournaments at the BOKC, simply to watch good high school basketball.

I think it was very much a community event.

I had no problem with parking or getting out. All the ushers I encounterd were very helpful and no rudeness at all. Personally I like the assigned seating. Didn't have to worry about not getting a good seat, or having to get there so ealry so the "home crowd" didn't get all the lower seating. Seats were great...like another poster said..."Better than bleacher seats". Biggest advantage I feel is a college size floor for the players to play on...huge help to the team that advances on to Rupp.

Cons - 10:00 AM games? Candy patrol at the doors. Concession prices

and rude ushers. No directing of traffic. I also didn't like the 6:00 start time for the finals.

Pro - beautiful facility, winning on someone else's floor

Give a discount ticket price to students or just kids in general.

Mason County just sold their State Tourney tickets for $8.00 which just happens the same price for Regional Tourney to see your team play. People might say that you get more than one game but the majority just pay to see your team play and then you leave. Little to much for Regional Tournament.

I agree that students should get in at a discount or student price.

What time would have the start time for the finals for the 10th at the BOK?

I guess you will stay home next week, because you are going to see the same thing in Lexington.

I forgot this. The atmosphere and excitement of the 10th region was missing. A lot of the fans missed the first of the championship game sitting out backed up in rush hour traffic. When we finally got into the parking garage we had to walk by all the agravated fans missing the game trying to just buy tickets. A lot of 10th region fans missed the beginning of the championship game. To many people inside worrying about peoples feet touching the seats. They could have been used better directing traffic trying to get into the game.

It lacked excitement due to the size of the building. It made it bad for the 10th region fans to be the first game. They should have had the 9th region game first. They did not have far to travel. It was a really nice place but that's about all that was good about it. Pop & Popcorn $6.00 to expensive. We did not like the 10:00 A.M. game Deming got stuck with on Saturday either. Something was missing. Not just our money after it was over.

You complained when it was in Montgomery County last year!

You complained when it was in BOKC this year!

The only place you won't complain about, is on your own back door step!

Your whinning is getting old and get this, it's time to get over the fact that the world does not evolved around Maysville, Ky, the Fieldhouse and Mason County. The fans came out in large numbers, your Schools in the 10th made a lot of money, the majority of the fans had a great time, and the 10th will no longer play every Regional in the Fieldhouse. The sooner you realize that, the better off you will be.....

Well said Theoldguy.:thumb::thumb:

I would like to add:

atmosphere....the fans and bands make the atmosphere. Get your fans there. I was really disappointed in the Mason Student section. Some of the pictures paNDA posted showed the small size of your student section. GRC had the largest student section there....and yes we had the longest to travel.

Fans late to the game. That is no ones excuse but the fans that were late. START EARLY. Heck we were involved in a car wreck on the way to the game. Had to to get the police and parimedics....and we were not late for the game...and it was a 2 hour drive for us compared to the 45 minute drive for the Mason fans.

Building too big. Well you told the rest of the region to build a bigger site to accommodate all the fans. Well the BKO did....and you sill complain.

Start of game time. You stated in another post that the late game on a school night was bad for the students going to school the next day. Well the 8:30 start would have been even later then with the trophies to be given out, this would have been even later getting home....which is it?

Food prices, will you complain about the same prices at Rupp?

I agree with Theoldguy. :thumb:

I don't know where you got your information no one ever said I lived in Mason County. I don't. I will tell you this. I live in the 10th region and always have. I have attended 10th region games ever since I was young and I did not graduate from Mason County either in case you may be interested.

It was like attending a little state tournament. It lacked the atmosphere of the 10th region. I felt like I had already been to the state tournament when it was over. We did not enjoy the $6.00 pop & popcorn either. should have kept my money and gone out to eat something better after the game. I guess the best team won in the end. It sure had nothing to do with the home court advantage up there.

You may not live in Mason Co but you are a big Mason co fan and supporter. Hence all you negativity of the region being held anywhere but the fieldhouse.

So I guess then when the 10th plays the Region in Montgomery County and at the BOKC, you won't be returning? You do realize, that the 10th region tournament, will no longer be played exclusively at the Fieldhouse don't you!

Sugar Daddy is one big Mason Co. supporter. But I do agree with him in that the 10 region did not have the atmosphere as it does playing in the 10 th region gyms. Personally, I did not care for the two regional finals in the same gym, the same night: It just doesn't seem right and near as exciting. thumb::ylsuper:
