I don't see Holmes having any problem matching up with Boone either but the problem with Rico guarding the point is it leaves a void inside, unless Rice is in.

 

Exactly. Stopping Boone inside is really the key. If Rico is your best defender I think he guards McFarland some and Gabbard some, depending on how the game flows. I would start him on Gabbard, try to keep Boone from getting in sync offensively and get the lead. In the second half, Rico is going to guard McFarland to keep him from taking over and winning the game if it is close.

I do agree with most of the talk on this match-up. However, I do see Pittman being a huge factor in this game, one way or another. In the first game he injured his hand in the 1st qt I believe and was a NON factor. If he comes out focused and stays out of foul trouble, he may be the difference in this one.

The wildcard in the mix may be if Pittman/Rice allow Boone County to take them out of their game by physical play. If the Dogs take their emotional lead from Rico and Riley, rather than Pittman/Rice, they will take care of business with a double digit win.

I'd have to agree. If Boone can get into Pittman/Rice's head, then it could be a different outcome than the Holmes win that should and hopefully will happen. I'm hoping R. Johnson leads his team on the floor, along with Riley and that Holmes takes this one convincingly.

I must admit, this thread sure has a familiar feel and tone to past Holmes threads.

I'd say a lot of that had to do with Pittman being on the bench a lot throughout the game with the injury and I'm pretty sure Rico was in foul trouble as well.

 

This is the region championship...big players step up on the big stage.

 

Holmes is more focused than ever right now and ready to go. Heard from several Holmes players that Cotton made a few remarks towards them during the Highlands game when they were rooting for Boone and then again during the NCC game when he was in the front row....not very smart on his part to try and give them added motivation.

 

I'm going to tell you that this probably did not happen. I've known and coached Cotton for years and this is completely out of character for him. He sat with me a lot of the NCC game and I can assure you that nothing was said. As for during the Highlands game, it is not like him to focus on anything else while he is on the floor. Plus half the game he was in the locker room with the trainer working on his ankle. Just wanted to clear that up.

 

With that said, as a Boone alumni - I'm going to have to go with them for this game. Even though they won the last match-up, I know they still feel like they have something to prove.

This should be a great game, but in the end I see Holmes pulling out, but Im rooting for Boone in this one.

Holmes will come out on top in this one for several different reasons the main one being that this is the 3rd regional final for some of these guys, Holmes may have the best defense in the state and they are more athletic. Holmes by 5
