I am sure we will be reading a similar article from Campbellsville in 2-3 years.

Chappell is a very good coach, good luck to him he will field good teams no matter where he goes. He is a class act, Campbellsville is lucky to have him.

If opportunities present themselves for coaches they shouldn't be critisized for jumping on them. I doubt anyone judges your career decisions and I'd almost bet that any job you have pays more than being a coach. Kudos to him for being able to better himself in a thankless career field.

I agree. Coach Chappell is a good guy and I don't blaim anyone for looking for a better job.

He has had success there, bottom line. Judging a person strictly on wins/losses isn't always accurate as to what they did with the program. South Laurel is a good job also for someone going to be the HC.

He won 13 games in three years...the program is not in better shape. And Campbellsville is hardly greener pastures. What makes a coach go from a 5A school to a 1A school? Makes you wonder...

SL is not in better shape than it was 3 years ago by any means. They need a Coach that is in it to stay and knows what it takes to build a winner.

I have to agree with leonidas that SL is not in greater shape than it was three years ago. I am not knocking coach Chappell, but when you got the offense that he has had for the last three years you should have won more than he won IMO. I think going down to 1A ball is going to be tough because you don't have the student body that you do in a 5A school. But I think it will be interesting to see how the next three years pan out for him. And I again think that for a team to have any success you need a coach that is going to be there through the long haul. But these are just my two cents.

Something must have really drawn him to the Campbellsville job. South's defense has never seemed to get untracked at SL, even before Chappell got there. They had some games over the past several years where they played well, but never have found that consistency. I think if they give Welch the DC a few more seasons, he can turn the defense around.
