Harrison verses Montgomery has the potential to be a very good game if the Breds come ready to play. However, Montgomery did beat the Breds by 10 on the Breds home court just a few days ago on Senior night. In the Breds defense, I have seen many teams not play so well on Senior night as it is a very emotional night. Good luck to all teams in the 10th Region Tournament and may the best team win and represent us well at Rupp.

Looks like it will be a good region tournament with in my opinion Scott, Clark, and Mason all having very good chances at winning it. Mason got the worst first round draw possible but is away from Scott and Clark, so in the end it isn't too bad. The only bad thing is that we have to wait a whole week to see these matchups play out! Them dang girls!! lol

All that being said though, I'd like to see somebody justify the "Brossart is a tough draw for Mason" argument with more than saying that it's tournament time and anything can happen, which, obviously, can be said for all 128 region first round games.

 

Not my quote, but as for reasons----It is tourney time, the Mustangs are very well coached, they have a week to prepare, and did play a pretty good game vs. Mason the first time , that was probably a little closer than the final score indicated. Don't think the matchups favor Brossart at all, especially the far superior height of the Royals, and in particular the guards.

 

Playing devil's advocate however, the same could be said of the Campbell County-Brossart game, as they had beaten BB twice, once in a blowout, had horrible match-up issues; but when it counted the result was different? Bottom line--The Mustangs aren't supposed to be here, and teams like that are dangerous, especially when they play good "D".

 

Guessing this will be another Mason County ho-hum victory, but as they say--"That's why they play the games"? Certainly not predicting a Brossart victory, but I do think they'll show up, even after reading that you think they shouldn't; probably because they only have to drive a few miles this year and can get Skyline Chili afterwards?? Doubt they or anyone else would travel all the way to Maysville this year, but since its in NKY, maybe Scott & BBHS will show up, at least to see the new arena??

 

PS: Clark County might show as well??

According to this thread, Brossart is going to give Mason County all kinds of trouble... It very well may be a good game and all, but exactly what is everybody's reasoning on why Brossart is going to have such a different team than the one that lost at home to Mason by double digits last week?

 

A. Brossart seems to be the popular choice as "the best of the district runners-up" in the 10th. Their opening-round win over Campbell County and their very close loss to Scott in the district finals support the premise.

 

2. Brossart was a 3/4 length-of-the-court Russ Middleton circus shot from being a couple of possessions down late in the game in the meeting a few days ago.

 

D. Brossart plays the, for lack of a better term, "NKY style" of basketball that has given Mason County fits in the past. Patient on offense, shorten the game, Rieger in the high-post/lots of back-door cuts.

 

There can be little doubt that Mason County is the favorite in this opening-round matchup, but there is certainly the potential for a close game.

And finally, Brossart has nothing to lose. Many thought they wouldn't advance past Campbell County.

This is unthinkable--It can't happen!!

Brossart had actually cut the Royals lead to 4 early in the fourth quarter and were a Jacob Rieger '3' attempt from making it a 1 point game.

 

Russ Middleton put his team on his back and carried them back to a sizable lead, forcing the Mustangs to press and foul, resulting in the final score.

 

In horse racing we call this a middle move, which can be the sign of a horse (or in this case a Mustang) coming to form and might be a good bet next time out.

 

No doubt, Mason County has the superior size and talent and deserve to be big favorites. It would be an upset of major proportions for the Mustangs to oust the defending state champs in the opening round of the 10th Region Tournament, but what is, is, and we can't change it now.

 

Perhaps if we had closed out the Scott game we would be sitting here tonight looking at Clark, Mason, and Scott all in the opposite bracket, but we didn't and they aren't. Brossart will show up at practice every day this week despite the draw, and will take our best shot on Saturday at 4pm.

The time concessions are all part of the price of playing the 10th Region Tournament in Northern Kentucky at the BOKC Center. The published time for the 10th Region Championship game is Tuesday night, 3/10/09 at 6:30pm.

 

Playing at the BOKC has led to a lot of more complex issues than playing the tournament under simpler conditions at the Fieldhouse. However, much time and effort has been put forth in order to allow our athletes the chance to play in a potential Division I venue. Whether it proves to be worth it or not is yet to be seen. It was the 37th district's choice of where to host the tournament, and the brand new BOKC was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

 

This is not the first time that the 10th Region semis and finals have been played on Monday-Tuesday night. It is the first time that the championship game has been played at 6:30pm. In the recent past quarterfinals and semi-finals games have been played at 5pm at the Fieldhouse - tack on the 50 minute drive time from Maysville and the two timeframes are nearly identical.

 

If the BOKC goes one and out for the 10th, the organizers can at least say that they tried. Nothing is going to change at this time. It will be the first time in eons that I personally can see the entire 9th and the entire 10th Region tournaments play out first hand. Not everyone is in this situation.

 

The games will be played and the inititative will either be heralded or hated. Regardless, next year the 10th Region Tournament Prodigal Son will return home to the Mason County Fieldhouse, hopefully with a renewed appreciation for how wonderful a simple high school basketball tournament can be in a truly magnificent high school basketball environment.

But you don't think the Ninth Region fans wouldn't scream about games starting at 5:30 and 10 and getting over around midnight, just so the Tenth could share the Center, and then the Tenth gets the 7 and 8:30pm games?

Well honestly the 9th can have the fieldhouse we have played there for 50 years you can have it!:lol::lol::lol: and actually as a GRC fan if I remember correctly I think we did start a game a few years ago around 9:30pm that night. To me I wouldn't mind but for older fans they might just stay home and listen but I know I will be there regardless the time. And we have played 5:30 games as well it's nothing new for 10th fans.

I don't think any of the district winners want Brossart in regional game 1. So I can't see anyone saying Mason Co. got the best draw. If the tournament were seeded, I would have Brossart as the number 4 seed. I am sure GRC, Scott and Mason all wanted to draw into the same side of the bracket as Harrison Co., but if I told you you had to play the #4 seed in the first game is it worth it? I don't think so. I will say I think Scott has the toughest draw - #5 seed Deming in round 1, #1 GRC in round 2 and then probably Mason in the title game. That's a tough path to Rupp.

I agree with your logic; provided that we qualify the "Scott has the toughest draw" with the "for a distict winner" proviso. Overall, St. Patrick and Deming got the toughest draws.
