Congratulations to the Red Devils and Coach Kidwell and staff. If you would have known at the beginning of the year you were going to win single digit games but you could pick one to win, this one has to be the one you'd pick. And they did this with their leading scorer and rebounder on the bench. Hope all is well with Casey Stapleton.

Thats probably not what Greenup needs another year and another new coach. no continuity is part of Greenup's problem IMO

Tonight was a perfectly officiated game. Kyle Skaggs' 25 points were as impressive a performance by an 8th grader since, should I even dare say it...nah, you feel in the rest!

Congratulations to the Russell folk. At least the ones who kept the faith.

Hard fought game from both teams. Greenup Co. could have folded a couple of times but they keep clawing their way back.Tough loss.

It's good to get a trip to the region for a young group that has worked hard all year and played the games with the effort this group has.:thumb: If I had to put a name on this game , it would be "pace maker".There were several in the stands that I thought were going to need one.Kidwell included :lol:

I was glad to see Russell get this win. It says a lot about their character and the coaching to see a team lose night after night yet still go out and play their hearts out night after night. All the hard work paid off with a trip to the regional tournament!

 

Kyle Skaggs was very good in this one, coming through in the clutch several times with big shots. Look out when he starts his high school career next year! :-) Actually, I've said it before, but I do expect big things from this team next year. Skaggs, Davidson, McKenzie, and the current juniors are a good bunch of players.

 

All that being said, I agree with the earlier poster who was perplexed with the way Greenup plays. They looked like such a talented team to me when I saw them play this year, but I never figured out why such big players stay so far away from the basket either. And as for the earlier post about the officials, I thought it was fairly even. I just think Greenup fouls a lot. They play over aggressive defense and a large part of their offense seemed to be guys putting their heads down and driving straight to the basket regardless of who might be in the way.

 

In any case, congratulations to Russell on a BIG win for the basketball program under Coach Kidwell. Things are going in the right direction and Russell has a lot to be excited about on the hardwood in the future.

Congrats to Coach Kid and Russell. Russell was very well prepared and I agree GC shooting to many 20 fters with 6'4/6'5 kids!! The Devils will be well prepared again friday vs Lewis.

Wow. This was a heck of a game to witness. As bad as Russell has been all year this has to be extremely sweet to knock off GC. It looked like Russell had the game won and then Greenup hits a shot in the last seconds to send it to OT. THen Greenup has the lead by one and the kid from Russell who had just missed a free throw steps up and makes two. It really was a great game. I personally thought the officials did a pretty good job in the game. I wondered myself why Greenups bigs didn't stay down low and try to gain position which would have led to easy buckets. I didn't see all of Russells games this year but this was easily the best they played in the games that I witnessed. Good job Devils and good luck against Lewis.

Here is the young man that hit the winning free throws being carried off the floor. It was a heck of a spirited envirenment.
