Who will win the 9th Region?

Featured Replies

Right!!! Only we won't have to face SV in our road to TRY and get to State, but Holmes could very well have to play BOONE!!!!!!!!!!! Uh! OH!:scared::scared::ylsuper::banana:

Just wondering but what happened to the only other team to beat Holmes this year when they played in a rematch? :sssh:

Might want to look up Coach Henley's track record. You'll realize very rarely does a team beat Holmes twice in one year or back to back times. (With the exception of Covcath)

Examples:

04/05

Regular Season: Conner 75 Holmes 72 (OT)

Region Championship: Holmes 53 Conner 39

06/07

Regular Season:

Covcath 42 Holmes 41 (OT)

Covcath 46 Holmes 42

Covcath 53 Holmes 50 (District Championship)

St. Henry 50 Holmes 41

Region Tourney:

Holmes 61 St. Henry 50

Region Championship:

Holmes 72 Covcath 60

Solid argument

Maybe you want to tell us how and why Holmes would win a rematch.

This one is headed for a padlock and some of you are gonna be on the outside looking in during the districts if we can't take the personal garbage to the PM's. Keep the discussion on the 9th region predictions. This will be the only warning!

Solid argument

Here's how and why I think Holmes would win a rematch:

First, I doubt very seriously Boone is going to be able to hold Holmes to 38 points again. As bad as Holmes played offensively in the first game (give credit to Boone's defense AT TIMES), they still held Boone to 45 points, which to date is their second lowest output of the season. (Highlands held them to 37)

Second, Henley will make the proper adjustments in a rematch, just as he did against Bryan Station. I'd expect to see him press a lot more from the get go. When Holmes started pressing early fourth, you could tell Boone was cracking under the pressure as Holmes cut the lead from 12 to 5 within I believe a minute or two minute span. Outside of Gabbard and Mcfarland, Boone isn't exactly a great ball handling team. Holmes coaching staff is VERY GOOD at finding weaknesses in the other team after a loss. (See Bryan Station..pressed first game which led to a lot of lay ups and BS winning by 14, didn't press the second game and forced them to beat them with a half court offense...result: Holmes by 18...a 32 point swing)

Third, FREE THROWS! Very rarely is Holmes that atrocious from the free throw line. If they make their free throws it puts Boone in a tough spot late in the game and forces them to make plays, rather than sealing the deal at the line down the stretch.

Lastly, Pittman. He was pretty much scoring at will until he got hurt. He sat the majority of the game because of the wrist problems, and when he actually was playing, he was no where near what he was early in the game.

A rematch in the 9th region tourney would be a great game but I just don't see Boone being able to beat Holmes on a neutral floor that Holmes has already played on and beaten one of the top teams in the state. (Scott Co) Home court advantage was a HUGE for Boone in the first game. Do you think they would have beaten Holmes at Holmes this year?

On your first point, I sat there and watched the first game with a neutral fan and both of us agreed that Boone got better looks at the basket the ENTIRE game. Even the shots Holmes hit, they were contested. I felt like Boone missed more open looks than Holmes. BTW, Boone had it's second lowest scoring output, but dominated the game. They executed their game plan to perfection that night.

To the second point, this is a good one. I was expecting Holmes to press and run up and down the whole game, but they didn't. When they did, Boone did crack a little bit. If Holmes starts to press, I expect Boone to also because their press bothered Holmes as much as Holmes' bothered them. I don't think it is smart for Holmes to try and grind out a half court game against Boone.

The next point, Boone was just as bad at the free throw line that night. Moot point.

The last point, Pittman was not scoring at will until he got hurt. He was having a really good first half, but hardly scoring at will. He didn't sit the majority of the game either.

Do I think Boone would have won at Holmes that night? Yea I really do. Good thing for Boone is that they won't have to win at Holmes to win the region.

Yea...I believe all the names are put in a hat and they keep drawing until a district champ is placed against a district runner up, not in the same district.

I think that's hysterical. Put the name in a hat.. I still think they should put all of the names on a board, blindfold each coach, spin them around a few times, line them up with thier back to the board, and throw a dart over their shoulder and play whom ever their dart hits.. In the instance they hit their own team, the are DQed and go home. Or you could draw from a hat. Happy Thanksgiving:lol:

Is their a possibility that Highlands and Boone could face off in the semi's and Holmes not have to beat but one of them in the championship game?

Boone did execute their gameplan to perfection. They didn't want to get in an up and down game with Holmes so they worked their offense and waited until something opened up. Both teams missed a lot of open looks though. No denying that. I wouldn't say one team missed more than the other. The difference was Boone hit big shots when it mattered and Holmes didn't.

To the second point, this is a good one. I was expecting Holmes to press and run up and down the whole game, but they didn't. When they did, Boone did crack a little bit. I wouldn't necessarily say Boone's press bothered Holmes as much as Holmes did Boone. Holmes started making their comeback when Boone began to press because it led to easy baskets at the other end and actually allowed Holmes to set up their press and force turnovers. Holmes struggled to score in the half court set. That's where the game was won for Boone. I expect Henley to give them a little more freedom the second go around. (If it happens)

The next point, Boone was just as bad at the free throw line that night. Moot point.

Fair enough.

The last point, Pittman was not scoring at will until he got hurt. He was having a really good first half, but hardly scoring at will. He didn't sit the majority of the game either.

Pittman was only one really scoring for Holmes period in the first half. I believe he had 12 of their 21 points. He also sat more than you think. He came out of the game in the third at the 5 minute mark and didn't return until the 6 minute mark of the fourth. That's almost a full quarter with him on the bench and not even including the time he spent out after hurting his wrist in the first half. Riley also wasn't in foul trouble but sat a lot throughout the game. Not having those two on the floor makes a difference when they're the two leading scorers for Holmes.

Do I think Boone would have won at Holmes that night? Yea I really do. Good thing for Boone is that they won't have to win at Holmes to win the region.

Very true...but Holmes also doesn't have to win at Boone, which eliminates the whole homecourt advantage. Instead, Boone has to beat Holmes on the same floor where Holmes already took down Scott Co. :thumb:

Is their a possibility that Highlands and Boone could face off in the semi's and Holmes not have to beat but one of them in the championship game?

Yes...they could meet in the semis or first round, depending on whether they win their district or not. Assuming both win their district, they'd meet in the semi's if they don't draw the same side as Holmes.

If you were looking for the easy way out that would be the best draw for Holmes not to have to beat but one of them and not both.

Holmes vs Beechwood in the finals with Holmes pulling it out at the free throw line. The 35th owns the 9th the last 5 years and I don't see it any different this year. I think the semi's will look like this Highlands vs B-wood, Holmes vs Boone.

Holmes is the obvious favorite.

I disagee with Eta that Highlands is a bigger threat than Boone. Boone showed that you can play tough man-to-man defense and hurt Holmes. Highlands doesn't have the depth nor athletes that Boone does to play that D. I like Lother a lot but he's a big step below Gabbard at the PG position. He hurt Holmes with penetration. Add in what I consider a depth advantage for Boone plus one of the smartest and best passers in NKY in McFarland and I'd say Boone is the biggest threat.

Exactly correct IMHO!

Do you think playing at the BoKC, a college floor (which is a little larger than a high school floor) is an advantage or disadvantage to any of the teams? It seems to me it might help a team like Holmes with their size, length, and quickness to spread opposing defenses. Just wanting to see if anybody else agrees or disagrees.

I'm quite surprised bye all the Boone being favorite picks. Holmes has been the better team all season long. They apparently had a bad night when they played Boone or Boone had the perfect gameplan and ran it very affective. Who is to say they would run it perfect again or that Holmes wouldn't adjust from the last meeting? With this said I think Holmes is the clear favorite here in the 9th.........
