Some Advice For UK & Its Faithful

Featured Replies

I disagree completely with the so called advice this thread was supposed to enlighten. Encourage Meeks and Patterson to go pro? With these two back next year UK should send out a starting line-up that hopefully would look like....

Galloway/Liggins

Meeks

Miller/Hood

Patterson

Orton

and thats not too shabby. Instead of two guys who can score that looks to be an entire lineup who can. Likewise not only will a starting lineup look good if everyone stays and with the incoming class coming in, but we will also have something that we haven't had in a few years and that is a little bit of depth on the bench. I see big things for next year riding on one principle alone.....Both Patterson and Meeks returning.

Someone needs to remind Meeks of Azubukie before he gets any ideas of going pro, because to me its a very similar situation. Bukie had to go the D-League route for a year or two before breaking into the league, when if he would have waited another year may have been a lottery pick. Hopefully Meeks has people in his ear telling him of this instead of brainwashing him with the thought he will be an instant NBA star.

We have disagreed in the past. I am with you on this one. :thumb:

Most of us with Meeks' ability, overall season, and future money available, would opt to go pro. No one thinks he will be an instant star in the NBA, but he sure has potential. If I were him, I'd take the leap. Encouraging him to leave is nothing more than telling a young man to seize an opportunity that will provide very well for him and his family.

And about this being a reaction to last night's loss alone? No way. Last night was just further evidence that the program is going nowhere. This is a two man team, plain and simple. If those two men--or even one of the two go pro--next year won't be as strong as this year.

I think Orton coming in is good, but the kid has major knee problems already. While I hope he'll come back from the injury strong, I think it's a red flag. And I'd love to see Jon Hood come in and light it up. But it's tough to tell with him. He could turn out like Josh Carrier or like John Pelphrey.

And be a 2nd round pick with no guaranteed contract? I don't think so. Meeks would be stupid to go pro after this year. Patterson, I really couldn't blame, although I think he'd benefit more from one more season.

Not so sure he'd be a second-rounder, but I don't know much about the draft either.

Agree completely that Patterson will benefit from another year, provided Meeks stays. But if he doesn't stay, PP should go.

But what is it that causes you to think Meeks cannot have back to back solid seasons? I mean take guys like Curry, Hansborough, Griffin, etc. Those guys haven't only been good this season, but were as good last season as well. So the concept of Meeks leaving just because he will not next year do what he did this year isn't as buyable as one would think.

You come back and put together two solid NCAA seasons, then you may be a lock for the NBA lottery. I definatly don't see Meeks being a lottery pick this year or anything close to it. Furthermore, Meeks has been doubled and trippled almost all year, constantly having to run off screens just to get his shots. You don't think he could be just as good next year with better players around him?

Neither should make their decision based on the other. They are looking out for their own future. If Meeks goes, you don't think Patterson would benefit from being able to play PF next year with Orton in the middle? You don't think he'd be able to improve his game at all, just because Meeks isn't there? The team may be worse off, but Patterson could play his way into a lottery pick.

Meeks will be a very late 1st rounder at best this year in the draft. He's small, and needs to work on his ball handling and creating off the bounce. If he comes back, I could see a mid first round selection next year.

Good post here dolomite.:thumb:

This so called advice (to me anyway) was just more bashing. So, now I have some advice to anyone (no one in paticular, there are plenty)that wants to bash, gripe and complain all the time and that is to go ahead and do so, no problem and that is your right and choice to do so................Just when U.K. returns to winning big (and they will) don't come back around praising them then wanting to jump back on a bandwagon.

Every draft projection I've seen has Jodie in the second round or not drafted at all. He certainly shouldn't lose value by staying another year.

I couldn't blame PP for going, but I'd have to say his injuries will drop his stock some. I also think he'd benefit from playing along side Orton next year.

Definitely could be better w/ better players around him. But I don't really see better players being around him next year. They might, but I think both Orton & Hood are a crap-shoot. Orton only b/c of injury. Hood b/c he doesn't have much help, and it's hard to determine what kind of player he can be.

I didn't say Meeks would have a bad season next year if he came back. I just don't think it will eclipse this year's. And I honestly think that his production would slide a bit, though still be strong.

Patterson will benefit from a healthy Orton. I just don't know if he'll be healthy. Hopefully, he'll recover as Estill did.

It is in Patterson's best interest to stay here. But if Jodie should leave, I just think teams will collapse on him and he won't have the opportunity to improve his stock. In that case, I think PP should leave.

Thought we had a guy named Pilgrim sitting out that's supposed to be pretty good.

It's kind of like the LRCW spin on everything about UK games. For example, when UK won at Arkansas, it was because Arkansas was missing a player. However, when UK loses to Vanderbilt, he is right about how bad the Cats are, even though UK is missing an All-SEC player. It is simply what I call being pessimistic.

Dude they lost to VMI....I'd say that's just a tad worse than Georgia, no?

VMI was a good team with alot of returning scorers. If you really think that UK was as good then as they are now when Patterson is in the lineup then you've been sipping the same kool-aid as Mr. Parker.

He played at Big Blue Madness I believe it was I watched and he looked tough. He played like a more physical and athletic Harrellson. He isn't so much just power because he can take a step back and hit a 15 footer but looks strong enough that I wouldn't want to step in his way.

I dont see either Meeks or Patteron leaving. They know if both stays with the graduation and other players going pro then their stock goes up automatically. If both stay and Hood and Orton stay healthy and fullfill their expectations then we can make a run for the big one.

If they both leave its pretty simple then UK is on for another "Rebuilding year" and possibly a new coach because BCG's chances of even competing for a SEC championship goes from 100% to I would hate to even adventure how low our chances would be next year.
