Does it have to be played? Is it an actual requirement?

 

Cooper is a DI NKAC school, therefor Holmes has to play them since they're apart of the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference as well.

 

From what I understand, the only teams Holmes DOESN'T have to play are teams in Divisions II and III.

Actually it's a conference game that HAS to be played. Just like Elliott Co HAS to play other 16th region opponents.

This thread was meant to be to talk about how a first year program like Cooper can benefit in the future from playing a game like this their first year.

 

It wasn't meant to discuss how bad the score is going to be, how many dunks Holmes is going to have, why EITHER TEAM would schedule a game like this, etc.

 

Each team has to play this game, so I was more wondering what everyone's thoughts were on how this game will help Cooper progress.

Cooper's varsity is really a JV squad but they also have a JV squad. So, Holmes' JV plays Cooper's JV. What does Dave do? Play his JV again vs. Cooper's varsity? No, he has to give his varsity players a little time. However, he will use his lower level varsity players most of the game. I'm sure Dave will try to keep it in the 30-40 point margin just by slowing it down and not offering MTM pressure - maybe working on some zone. Tough situation for both teams.

I agree. I'd expect to only see Holmes starting 5 for the first quarter and maybe the first 3 minutes of the third.

 

Slusher, Herndon, and Arnold will see A LOT of time. I'd also think that Henley would use this game to get Mcclendon some more PT.

Even with Holmes back-ups in the game it is still going to be ugly. There has to be a way that Cooper could have played a less-brutal schedule. I heard that the AD did the scheduling before Sullivan was hired. They should have picked up smaller schools in the NKY area. Looking at their schedule for the remainder of the year, I only see them being close to Carroll County. Every other game is going to be an L.

Cooper had to play the majority of the opponents on their schedule because they're either conference or district games. They have to play Conner, Boone, and Ryle twice as well in order to determine seeding for the district games.

No offense to Cooper, I wish them the best of luck, but is the poll title seriously "Who wins?"

I don't see whats wrong with Holmes playing Cooper even if they was a D-2 or D-3 team. This is exactly the type of game Holmes needs right now. A game where they get the bench some min. to add to the depth, and rest the starters for the second half of the season. Holmes can't play a barn burner every game. All the top teams schedule a game, that they know going in it's not going to be close [confidence games]. To question Holmes schedule after playing 7 games against top 25 teams just seems silly to me.
