Anyone who knows anything about basketball would say this game belongs to Holmes, but the fact of the matter is that the game is to be played. It would be disrespectfull for Coach Henly to not play his starters at least until he has the game underhand. If he did not start them, he is saying that Cooper does not even deserve to see his best. I would be humilated more by that then by loosing by 100 points if I were a Cooper player.

I think what a lot of people are missing is that Coach Sullivan, having coached at Holmes, would want Henley to play his best against his team so he can get his team better. Sure they might get beat soundly, but Cooper's team is going to get much better playing against Holmes first 7, than they would playing against Holmes Jv the whole game. Should all teams not dress/play their best players just because the team they play isn't on the same level as them? Why should the starters have to sit just because the other team isn't very good at the time? You're essentially punishing those kids for being "too good."

I agree with this post ER. I come through Holmes right after Sullivan, I know how competive he is. I watched him work extra hard and take the starting PG spot from Conrad. He doesn't want charity, he knows first hand how hard the Holmes kids work. As a matter of fact he helped them players create the work ethic they have. These kids show up to practice everyday and have bought into what Henley is selling. They deserve to be rewarded not punished. It doesn't matter what the score is at the end of the day, because it's a bigger story here than just basketball. How about Sullivan a Holmes grad. being able to coach against the team he poured his heart into. Me personally I love the fact that Sully will get a chance to coach against a team he holds near and dear.

Well said TR. Sullivan is a HUGE reason for the development of players like Pittman and Riley and why they have such great work ethics. For him to be able to coach against these kids and see first hand how they've progressed with the time and effort he put in with them is a bigger story than the game itself.

This game will go along way with Coach Sullivan being able to get his players to by in to what he is trying to get done. They will get a first hand look at what it takes to become an elite basketball program and they will Know their current coach was a big part of that. Both coaches are well aware of this, and that is why Cooper will see Holmes' best even if for a short while. In the long run this game will be far more important for Cooper's developement than just another win for Holmes.

I don't think we are questioning who is going to win this game but its not a lost cause for both programs in my opinion. From Cooper's point of view you have an opprotunity at this very young stage of your program to get a chance to play the number 1 team in the state. That is big for a young team and Hopefully they can get something out of this opprotunity. This is the best team they are going to see hands down all year.

 

Holmes IMO needs to start there regular guys and play at least one half as they normally would. We seen in the Largo game they struggled giving up second chance shots, vs Ryle they struggled with turning the ball over (traveling), ticky tack fouls due to not moving there feet on D, and making poor decisions with shot selection. At this point of the year, a game like this lets you get back to the fundementals and correct those things before heading into the home stretch and that is what Holmes needs to take out of this game.

Hey Marc can you find out tomorrow whether or not this game will even be played? I know Boone Co schools are out tomorrow and I think I saw on the news that Covington Independent is out as well.

:thumb: Agreed. Plus I am sure Cooper's players and fans want to see the state's number one team first hand. Cooper gets to see how much better they need to get to be a top team.

Not even dress them? This does not sound very classy. This would be like telling everyone at Cooper that they don't belong on the same floor with Holmes. Maybe they don't belong on the same floor with them, but this is still a growing program where the players need the experience of playing agaisnt the best players around. I think it would be a lot more classy to just take out the first seven players after the first quarter.
