More a statement on the ridiculous criteria in the computer based rankings. Teams should not be encouraged to beat a team by this margin just to improve thier poll rankings. Their is never a need to beat a team this badly.

:thumb: Agree on that part but with that said. I've seen and attended games, which I'm sure you have as well, where the opponents were not only not-evenly matched but by a wide margin of ability.

 

It gets debated often, when scoring margin like this happen. A coach could insert players and just have them dribble. What good would arise and to me, more humiliating for the opponents than playing the game. Some schools have years, where they will struggle greatly against very good teams and unfortunately, the outcome will be a wide margin.

 

Keep in mind with scores like this, it's usually a combination of superior talent on one side and the other side, with no capability to stop it or score themselves.

Sorry guys, but I have to disagree on this one. Don't matter how lop-sided the talent is, there is a way to keep from beating your opponent by 90+ points in a HS basketball game. Yes I understand about 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string players, and you can't tell them "don't play", but there is also a way to slow the game so this margin doesn't occur. JMO

But if these two teams are indeed in separate districts, it begs the question of why the game was scheduled in the first place. Maybe there is some connection with the coaches, something along those lines?

Shouldn't have let them score so much. Call it classless or whatever you want, but I don't have a problem with this. I agree with the no traps, and bench players etc...

I'm an idiot. Portland and PRP aren't in the same district. Portland's district includes Brown, Central, Shawnee and St. Francis. PRP's district includes Beth Haven, Holy Cross, Valley and Western.

 

But they are both in districts that seed their tournament.

Then if they're not in the same seeded district, why in the world would PRP schedule poor little Portland Christian, particularly at this time of the year. Shouldn't they be prepping up against the likes of Ballard or J-Town?

I get so sick and tired of the PC world we live in and how we are supposed to respect our opponent.

 

So what is wrong with teaching our kids to have respect? Would a 55 point victory (rather than a 95 point victory) have been such a bad thing for PRP to live with? By way of analogy, the Highlands vs. Cov Cath rivalry is among the best (and most heated) in the state in all sports. A couple of years ago the two student bodies almost got into a scrap when their teams met in a bowling match! But, Highlands goes about their business with class. Highlands may well have been able to score a hundred on us. I suspect Coach Mueller thought it more important to teach his kids a thing or two about class and dignity rather than take the opportunity to kick an opponent when they were down. The kids at PRP might have benefitted from such a lesson.

There can be no explaination for a score like this. Even if the other team begs you to keep scoring on them you back down.

Give me a scenrio or "game report" that would justify this.
