Elliott County 74 Morgan County 63

Recommended Posts

One of the guttiest Cougar performances in many, many years. The Cougars had the Lions on the ropes the whole game. It was a single digit lead late and late in the 4th Elliott was up 59-55 and the Cougars missed a wide open layup. Elliott goes down and hits a three. Morgan had the ball down 66-61 and missed two FT's.

Morgan's offensive game plan was excellent and it wasn't a slow down game, it was effective in getting high percentage shots. Elliott showed a lot of moxy by creating the cushion needed and getting baskets to keep the Cougars at bay.

Morgan actually had a chance to take the lead and missed two three pointers as well, Morgan only shot 2-12 from the 3 point line.

Morgan handled the pressure from Elliott well.

Chris Knipp was the hero for the Lions in the 4th, he made some outstanding plays late.

It was a very entertaining game to watch!

Does anyone have stats and did Coach Mays rest the starters? I'm wondering why this game was so close?

Starters play 90-95% of the game. Elliott will have all week to rest up, they didnt have school today, no school tomorrow, so they can rest up.

He seems to be the hero quite often. He is a very underrated player in my opinion!

Was this game that close with Elliott's starters playing most of the game or did they try to rest players some any imput from someone who was there.

Was at the game last night and first of all in the spirit of great competetion my congrads to the Morgan County Cougars on a great game. Dale and I have said it before and that anybody can be beat on a given night. It is not living in the real world to think you are going to have a 30-50 point blow out every single night. A handful of teams in the 16th are playing real good basketball right now and bringing their A+ games and hitting that Big X on Elliott's jersey. This will prove beneficial in the long run for the Elliott kids who need to be challenged and know that they must bring it or else. Turning point in my opinion was when Ferg hit two back to back treys from long range that turned a single digit lead into a double digit lead. He had a third attempt that fell ever so short that would have blown the roof off. At that point the roof was shaking anyway. Elliott did not shoot FTs real well and Morgan it seems hit them all. But top quality teams find a way to win when it seems all odds are stacked against them. In the paper today it will still say Elliott County 17-1 and 5-0 in the district.

SIDE NOTE: This was the 20th straight district win for Elliott County. Last loss was on December 19th, 2006 which was a one point loss to East Carter. They came back on January 2d, 2007 and avenged that loss with a 21 point win.
