No it isn't unfair...to condemn people who aren't perfect and fits into someone's idea of a "perfect person" is totally unfair. To call all "fat" people lazy and disgusting is unfair. :irked:
It's completely unfair. You are, in a sense, doing the very same thing for which you're condemning others. I just don't see anyone generalizing about all overweight people. :idunno:

I truly wish I had never made the first remark in this thread. BirdsFan You more than anyone knows how I feel about people parking in handicap parking places when they aren't handicap. I spent the last few years of my mother's life trying to find spots to park with her with me just to find out that someone, not handicap, was parked in a spot that should have been vacant for her. What I am having a hard time understanding why I am being protrayed as someone who is condemning others when it was some posters on here who was callling fat people lazy and disgusting (and yes it was said).

So as far as this thread is concerned I am through with it!

But I do not believe it was meant as a general condemnation. I know it wasn't in my case.

Same here, and I think if anyone reads my post I made that pretty clear.

I have been a nurse for over 30 years, as most of you know. I know many people struggling with thyroid issues who would be mortified to be considered as handicapped. And guess what.....they are NOT. There is a big difference between being overweight and obese.

More often, I see liter swilling pepsi diabetics ready and willing to be considered "disabled" to get that spot so that their knees don't give out! Here is a thought...take responsibiltiy for yourselves! There is NO excuse for being OBESE. It is a weakness, not a handicap.

If you had asked this question 30 years ago it would have been ridiculous.

So diabetic people who swig pepsie are asking for parking permits?

Thankyou. I come from a family of heart disease, cancer, diabete's and high blood pressure just to name a few. 3 of the 4 claimed my granparents. I pray to god it doesn't take my parents, but I also treat myself differently. I work out OFTEN(they didn't), atleast 2 times a week when I'm not in the grove, 5-6 times when I am. I recognize that it's up to me to recognize my families history and make up for it. My gf has seen half my family, and it's likely the lighter half, she recognizes as well as anyone that I don't resemble my family. I hope to god they'll catch on and follow my lead. The thought of losing any one of them scares me to death, but I do know that if they follow the roots left for them, they'll be lucky to see 60.

Perhaps this will explain my opinion some more, but like I said before, I don't understand not being able to controll what you put in your body, especially when your family needs you.

I will ask this again. What percentage of the population is obese due to a medical condition such as an unactive thyroid (or something else). The only number I could find said between 2% - 20%. Also of that number what percentage cannot be control with medication?

OhYea, you said your family has thyroid problems. Is this a condition that can't be treated with medicine? I have tried to find some info but haven't found the answers I was looking for.

So I was watching TLC the other night and they had on there the 800lb teenager and it was extremely sad. They had to have 7 paramedics lift him on a gurney into a squad car to take him to hospital. Just mountains of blubber layered all over his body. They actually showed the procedure of them cutting a huge layer of fat off of his body and although disgusting it was very interesting to see what fat looks like on the inside. It is exactly like whale blubber.

Anyway, here is a startling statistic they mentioned on there.

Over 2 million people in the USA weigh over 500 lbs. WOWZER

:scared::eek:

Wow. I wonder how many of those 2 million have a physical problem that makes them that way.

I cant imagine anyone who could prevent it actually letting themselves get that HUGE.

As a nurse do you see drunks come in with debilitating injuries? Do you want to forbid them from a handicap parking pass due to their weakness for liquor?

Scientists are announcing that they have found that obesity can be caused by an airborn germ.

I agree completely, in that very limited situation. I think, as long as a doctor certifies that you honestly do have a medical condition, you are entitled to the spot. :thumb:

Do you want to forbid amputees who lost their leg because they were drunk or do you only want to if they have a "condition?"

All of your posts seem to indicate that a person should have to answer "why" they are handicapped and then have judgment passed. However, your arguments are either lacking or inconsistent.

I'd thoroughly enjoy a good healthy debate rather than silly icons being posted. Its up to you. It could be good for the thread.
