Just using logic, how can someone mentioned as All-American not be mentioned as a Mr. Kentucky Football Candidate. As you said yourself, he is deserving of awards and recognition.

Blinding Speed? Maybe, Maybe not. Those that have kicked it to him would probably say yes. Those that have thrown it to his side when he is on D would probably say the same.

 

 

The kid has performed at an All-State level his Soph year on D. He has performed at an All State level on offense, defense & special teams his junior year, including by one organization at an All American level. If he continues to progress his senior year and has 3 years of All State/All American performance how could he not be in the discussion for Mr. football?

 

He is a game-changer to the Nth degree.

 

It will be interesting to see how Dale uses him on offense next year and how many touches he gets.

The kid runs track and is an All-American so I thought Mr. Football would be in the question. Not sure if he will have all the numbers but should be interesting.

No his last name didn't get him this award. What I think got him this award was his excellent pass routes,blinding speed,football IQ, his ability to create seperation,and being able to catch passes in the clutch(remember the catch at the Bryan Station game that won it for the birds?)I forgot,he does kickoff returns and punt returns too,and is not to shabby doing those either.When he doesn't have the ball,he will be throwing great blocks down field for his teamates,because Austin is a great team player. Heck,I wouldn't be surprized to see him working the consession stand at half time.Congrats Austin,great day for Highlands,and K.Y. football.:thumb:

 

Great reply... It's the combination of all the above that earns him the award and respect by his peers. The separation on pass routes and the football IQ makes him a QB's best friend! :thumb:

Austin Collinsworth is the type of player that performs well beyond what someone might expect because he runs well-disciplined routes, has great hands, high football IQ and good field vision. Playing for an outstanding, nationally recognized HS program (that knows how to take advantage of and showcase his skills) doesn't hurt either.

For those of you that haven't had the chance to see Austin play, go to Highlands Recruits.com . This is a highlight tape of the last two years. Austin is really a special player. His defensive stats this year are a little off because teams just didn't really challenge him.

I recently had the distinct honor and privilage to travel with Austin and others to San Antonio for the US Army Jr Combine. I was in total awe watching this young man compete one on one with perhaps the best JR's in the USA. His quickness and separation is down right nasty. He had DBs who run 4.4 and 4.5's shaking their heads in disbelief as he turned, twisted and flat out ran by some of the best DB's there is to offer. Austin had 15 balls thrown to him, caught 11 balls, dropped 1 ball and had 3 balls either thrown behind him or under him. Congrats to Austin on this well deserving award. I wonder if someone could add the Army Combine to his highlights. Now those highlights are something to see.

Thanks for the update on the Army combine. I was wondering how he stacked up against the rest of America. I think you answered the question we all were wondering.

 

I hear that his precision route running might be his best asset.
