Some of the same posters who are opining of the weakness of the Big 12 in the other thread, keep putting Texas ahead of USC here. Texas had to come from behind to pull out a choker against Ohio State, while the Trojans pasted OSU by 4 1/2 TD's and pasted the team that beat OSU in their bowl game. Assuming everyone got better as the season went along, am I missing something?

I said back in September on this board I wanted to see a Florida-USC title game, and I'm mad that I won't get it.

Until the monied interests pit the SEC against USC in title games (as Pete Carroll has been saying for years) we're not going to feel satisfied at the end of the year.

First, I wasn't one of those you mention. I think the Big 12 was a strong conference this year. As to Texas-USC comparisons you make some strong points. Of course the Trojans also played the Buckeyes at home, with a National Audience, and without the Buckeyes best RB. (albeit Texas only had to deal with him for only half a game. :D)

Texas didn't play well against the Buckeyes and came out flat. They struggled and overcame a strong OSU performance to win. That's what good teams do.

I've kind of pointed out that what Florida did to OU wasn't much different than what Texas did accept the Gators did it as much with Defense and the Horns with offense. Also, the Sooners had their #1 RB in October, they didn't Thursday night.

It's all conjecture. It's what makes these sites fun. You would naturally put USC higher and I would naturally lean to the Horns. They are both pretty well close because speed is the main point of difference between the best teams this year (Florida, USC, Texas, Utah and OU seem to have it) and the ones who were a tier behind (Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, et al).

This was the ideal year for a playoff. :thumb:

Here were the Final Power Rankings by Fox Sports. Agree or disagree, it's an interesting formula and idea.

Interesting that they cite USC for having only one "elite win" as a problem and Utah having "bad wins" in their schedule.

Is it more tripe or more data to argue?
