We are going to find out how good Elliott is in this Christmas tournament. Even if they struggle, it doesn't mean they aren't one of the better teams in Kentucky.

 

Their schedule isn't the most difficult in the world and with the exception of the All A tournament, they could very well go to Rupp with only 1 or two losses.

 

The knock against Elliott last year was when they played physical teams, they struggled. Cov Cath, Rose Hill and Mason County. We have heard in their scrimmages, they may have fixed that problem. I'm looking forward to seeing their first real test.

 

I can guarantee you regardless of what you read on here South Charleston was pretty tough and pretty Physical. They committed 41 fouls. They also had two D1 recruit's in Dobson and Henry according to news. I agree last year we had a freshman that wavered just a tad against physical teams, BUT

he is not wavering this year. He is averaging 22pts, 8 boards a game along with a couple dunks a game and thats not on breakaways. Most of them have been taking someone off dribble and tearing the rim off. Goes by the name of T. Knipp. Not taking offense honestly, just providing you with some info. 106 points a game would be a good average in intramurals. I don't care who they are playing, its impressive to put up that many points in 32-minute game.

Seems like the 1997 Louisville Eastern team that won the state championship put a whole lot of points up on the board. Maybe 90+ per game?

What type of competition are they playing? Serious question, I know nothing about these teams:

 

Morgan County

West Carter

Lewis County

Boyd County

South Charleston

 

West is 8-1 and better than people thought, not great, but competetive. Lewis, Morgan, and Boyd are all average at best, probably slightly below average. Boyd has gotten lit up a few times this year. South Charleston is supposed to be very good, they have good tradition and were ranked #1 in WV's largest class. They would probably compare to GRC or someone similar in KY this year.

South Charleston is a perennial power in WV, were #1 in 3A in WV (only 3 classes).

That is a lot of points to average for a high school game.

106 ppg in high school is impressive but I know of at least one college that does it every year. Grinnell College (a NCAA DIII school in Iowa) is currently averaging 126.5 ppg BUT they also give up 105.5 ppg.

How many minutes long is a NCAA Division 3 game?

According to the KHSAA website, it hasn't happnened as long as they've been keeping records. Onieda Baptist in 1983 averaged 95.5/game. BTW, the 49 point 1st quarter was the second largest in state history behind Jackson City's 51 point effort against MMI in 1992.

It may be an extra eight minute but Grinnell College runs a system that would be considered high a run and shoot football offense. Add on the fact that their coach wants them to shoot the ball without 10 seconds of each possession and the fact that when he subs, its most often a new set of five players at every substitution.

 

What Elliott County is doing is amazing on the high school level. I would like to see them hold the point level throughout the season and into the playoffs. This makes me even more eager to see Ethan Faulkner play next season here at NKU.

Very, very impressive for Elliott County.

Undoubtedly, putting that many points on the board is impressive.

 

But I'll reserve judgment until they play more competitive teams.
