FWIW, do the Faulkner's normally draw the other teams best defender?

Those stats are unreal but I'd caution you to look at more than stats. I've never watched the Faulkners so I can't comment on their ability. However, anytime you're dealing with a low number of shots its tough to use that stat alone as a determining factor.

 

My guess is that when you're playing EC your #1, #2, and #3 goal is to shut down the Faulkners. That's not the case with Riley. He benefits greatly from defenses having to worry about the other 4 and gets a lot of open shots. Huge props to him for knocking them down. As I said, that's an unreal stat. The Faulkners , on the other hand, are THE focus of the other team's defense which will add a level of difficulty to their ability to score that Riley doesn't face. Its not Riley's fault obviously. He's fortunate and Holmes is fortunate to have him ready to knock down shots.

 

So if you are a player and you are the main focus by opposing defenses and that player is able to lead their respective team wins they deserve more consideration. This has been duly noted for future discussions.

I will reiterate in this thread that HOLMES is the one team that I think can trump Elliott County in the match up department. Not saying that guarantees a victory over them...but knowing both teams personnel, Holmes has the pieces of the puzzle needed.

 

In addition I think JaMel Riley has made like 23 of 27 shots (Season) and was 5-6 (3 PT FG) vs. Scott County I believe. Coach Henley has said that Riley may be the best shooter he has ever coached and that would include his time he spent as an assistant at DuQuesne and Murray State.

 

The length, speed, and ability to play above the rim is the type of team that is needed to beat Elliott....

 

However, in all of my time around basketball, I have never witnessed a team play harder than this Elliott County team does...they do remind you of a Breckenridge County (Except Elliott is offensively much better) and even Marion County that was led by Anthony Epps.

Beechwood- Beuttel

Bryan Station- Morones

Newport- Greene

Scott Co- Guyn

Knox Central- Messer

Ballard- Cox

 

Sure he benefits from have 3 D1 kids around him in the Johnson Brothers and Pittman, but anyone who has seen Riley play since he was young, knows that this kid has always filled it up. Even before he played with those three. People just didn't have the opportunity to see him showcase his talents until last year against Dixie in the region tournament.
