While a 50-yarder isn't a gimmie, it may have cost them home field advantage for the AFC title game.

I think the Texans are close to being a real good team.

A couple breaks here and there, and Houston would have been right in the thick of things this season. The Indy loss where Rosenfels handed the game away is the big one, but they have another game that they lost by 6 to Indy and they lost in OT to Jacksonville.

That's the way it works...without fail for me.

 

Except this season was a new experience...I actually had a really good team, but had the pleasure of facing the first or second highest scoring team about 8 or 9 times in 13 weeks. Every week, without fail, the guy I'm playing would have his QB, one WR, and one RB just go completely nuts...

 

For example...I played the guy with Larry Johnson on the week he rolled up 198 yards and 2 TD's...I played the guy with Anquan Boldin when he had his best two games of the season...all season, crap like that. I'm amazed I even won a game...the only time I did is when I was the high scorer and even then it was close. :lol::madman:

My thoughts...this could get long.

 

First, I had a bad feeling about this game going in. I knew the Texans would give the Titans all they wanted, because I agree with an earlier post that said they're very close to being a really good team. In all reality, the Texans and Colts should be reversed because they should have beat Indy twice this season. So, I'm not surprised the Titans lost...I actually thought they would (just a hunch going in because the Texans are better than the respect they get and people treat them like the Chiefs or Raiders when the pencil that matchup in as a W...they're too good for that, IMO).

 

As for the game itself, the decision to forego the FG attempt from 49 yards with a kicker like Bironas is inexplicable to me. Fisher's a great coach and I'm not going to rip him for it, but he made a mistake on that one. There's no other conclusion to draw. Even if they get the first down, I don't like the decision. Bironas has a cannon for a leg and he's been a very good and dependable kicker for them for a while now. There's no reason not to give him the chance there...especially when you consider what he'd done yesterday vs. what Collins and the offense had done.

 

I just don't like the way the Titans are playing right now. The offense is struggling to run the ball consistently against decent opponents and, while Collins has done a good job, he can't win games for them every week, especially with no stud pass catchers on the roster. The defense is still very good, but they miss not having Vanden Bosch. (I'll get to Haynesworth later.)

 

I didn't want Tennessee to lock everything up with a month to go, because I didn't want them to lose their edge. So, with that in mind, I'm glad Pittsburgh won yesterday. I wanted to see these two meet with something at stake and I wanted to see how the Titans measured up with what I regard as the best team in the league (not just the AFC) right now. Personally, I don't think Tennessee is as good as P'burgh and I haven't since around mid-season, despite a better record. The Steelers defense is better...and, while the offenses may be a wash, the difference lies in the QB's and their ability in the clutch in close games. I think we saw it clearly yesterday...Collins couldn't deliver the game-winning drive against the Texans, while Ben marched Pittsburgh 88 yards for a TD against arguably the best defense in the league.

 

So, looking forward...I expect Pittsburgh to win next week in Nashville and finish as the top seed in the AFC. If both teams were at 100%, I still think Pittsburgh is better, but its close. As it stands, I'd say Tennessee will be playing with Haynesworth and Vanden Bosch and they have no chance...

 

The Haynesworth injury was just one of those things. It could happen to any lineman at any time. I really got irked by the ESPN guys trying to tie that back to the decision to pass on the FG. Haynesworth wouldn't have been on the sideline with the team trying to protect a 2-point lead. The guy has 8.5 sacks for goodness sake...he's more than just a run-stuffing tackle. I guess you could argue that that particular play wouldn't have happened...who knows? The injury was just part of football.

 

Tenneessee's best bet is to sit their studs that are banged up and hope you can get them healthy for January, because they can't win without them. I guess the MRI results on Haynesworth will let us know whether the Titans are out of contention or not. I've got my fingers crossed...

The announcers brought up the idea of possibly brining in Vince Young on some occassions from hear on out to spark the offense. Young is not a flashy QB and has poor numbers, but you cannot dispute the W's and L's. However, is it normal for a backup QB to be listening to an iPod during the ball game? I thought that was a bit disturbing.

The Titans won't have much success running the ball against Pittsburgh.

 

If they win, it will be because their defense shuts the Steelers down...and they're not good enough to do that without Haynesworth and Vanden Bosch.

He addressed it before they asked...Fisher's take was that the kick was out of his range. The earlier 50+ yarder was with the wind....the 49 yarder would have been into the wind. I guess Fisher thought they had a better shot at getting 3 yards. He also said from watching Bironas in the pre-game that the kick was out of his range...
