Getting Older - Is it Hard on You

Featured Replies

Ok, going to start this post to see how many of us feel the same way. I graduated high school in 1973, I will be 54 years old this summer. I never thought I would feel this way but I really am feeling older. It is harder for my hands to take off lids, I walk a little slower, I have to concentrate a little harder. Now I know I'm not in the best shape that I could be in but come on. I thought my parents were old while I was in high school and they were probably my age - so I know my teenage sons think that I'm old. We were the generation that was never going to be as old as our parents - what happen?

Just had a Birthday yesterday, so I know the feeling. I used to be able to do things but not able to. The days of 36 holes of Golf, are gone.

Im not old by any stretch of the imagination ( I turned 32 in Sept.), but I cxan certainly notice that I can't play sports (softball, flag footall, basketball) with reckless abandon like I could 5-7 years ago. and I agree with strike 3... 36 holes of Golf would be hard on me now.

I hit 40 this year. My eyes have gotten worse overnight it seems. I am becoming more forgetful. I am tired alot more than I used to be even though I am very A.D.D..

What happened??..we are getting old!:lol::lol:

Physcially I am in the best shape I have ever been; but, even on the downside of my 20s I can tell my recall is getting worse.

I am new to the 41 age. I do feel like I am getting older and it really does sadden me. I have always had a young mind (no comments from the peanut gallery!LOL) and I love to have fun, but, I find myself loving laying in bed and watching tv at night instead of going out! I used to think my mom was no fun because she would not play twister...no I understand why she did not play twister LOL.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I missed it. Happy belated birthday! Embarrassed.gif

I also graduated HS in 1973. I think I peaked at 16.

To elaborate; it's the little things that seem to accumulate. Being diagnosed with diabetes several years ago isn't such a little thing, but it seems like I have had an odd assortment of stuff.

Frozen shoulder.

Bell's Palsy.

Cat scratch fever (I'm not making this stuff up).

Severe concussion in a car accident several years ago, messes with short-term memory and concentration.

Plantar fasciitis.

I probably should get off my lazy butt and get active; but sometimes I seriously wonder if it's too late.

I'll be 52 in a few days and I do feel my age. Like mcpapa it's a combination of several illnesses with diabetes being the main problem. A heart attack and bypass surgery at 42 years of age was a wake up. Major illnesses just doh't happen to the elderly. It can come at any age.

I'm 54 and I have noticed aches and pains in joints and muscles that I didn't use to have, especially when I'm playing golf. I began feeling these symptons when I was in my late 40's. And the mobility is not the same anymore either.

And you asked what Happened.. It's called LIFE my friends!!! Live each day to the fullest, and you never know what Pain or Ache tomorrow might bring.

Yes, getting older is hard on me. I have a bad knee and my back has been hurting for the last 5 weeks. I have trouble going up stairs, and whenever I do try any athletic events, I usually twist an ankle.

And to think, I am turning 20 in 5 months.

I certainly notice pains in my knees but it certainly hasn't slowed me down. Still play a lot of basketball. Stay active with the kids. Yes, I hurt the next morning but I'm one of those "its in your head" guys when it comes to aging. If my kids want to break into a dance contest and see if the old man with bad knees can hang, lets go.

Don't get me wrong, I do keep up with teenagers and I also teach high school kids so they keep me active but it's like looking at your hands and you see your moms or you don't really know how white your hair is until you see a picture of your teenager as a baby and you go wow, look how black my hair was. My kids keep me very young and active I just feel the aches a little bit more.:thumb:
