Getting Older - Is it Hard on You

Featured Replies

A few years ago, while walking into wal-mart, I was complaining to MrRk that my knees hurt. At the very moment I was complaining I looked up and there coming toward me was this man with one leg. He was walking with a crutch but he was walking. I was so ashamed of myself.

So when my knees hurt, when I have to go to the bathroom too much, when I can't see as good as I used to and when I have to ask you to speak up because I can't hear as good as I used to, I think of that one legged man........and I thank God for all I can do.

Now to answer your question...is getting older hard on me? Heck yes it is:cry::lol:

45 this year and starting to really feel it. As of 4-5 years ago, I could still put up around 300 pounds and threw a baseball very hard (pushing 80 mph). Five years later and my knees hurt terribly after I run, both shoulders kill me (especially my left thowing shoulder) when I lift or throw, and I have the same problem with my left elbow as Carson Palmer (tendon has pulled away from the bone). Can still whip my 16 year old son, but starting to wonder if in another year I'll be able to back up my threats that he "better clean his room or else" . . . :creepy:

I'll be 52 in a few days and I do feel my age. Like mcpapa it's a combination of several illnesses with diabetes being the main problem. A heart attack and bypass surgery at 42 years of age was a wake up. Major illnesses just doh't happen to the elderly. It can come at any age.

Amen TGF, I suffer from Multiple Sclerosis and am very limited in my activities. My advice to anyone at any age would be not to take anything for granted.

You all are depressing me. I think I 'll take my geritol and go to bed.

At least you have your health ): Now go mow the grass/rake the leaves, shovel the snow, do any heavy lifting for trash day. All is well.

I'm 44...Six years ago when I was 38...I got in the best shape of my life from running and eating better...Well Six years later I'm out of shape again...The Key to staying young is to exercise and eat healthy...I started back this week to get back my fountain of youth...:thumb:

Do it brother !!! Willpower is the key and lifestyle changes.

I am 57 and workout 6 days a week and feel great. But if I back off for even a few days it sets me back weeks. The key is keeping on a regular routine no matter what. Vacations, holidays, business trips, sickness, injury, you still have to find time to workout.

Nice post RebelK. There is a man around our hometown that is without both legs. This man can be reguarly seen walking.....yes, I mean going down the streets w/o the aid of a power chair, wheelchair or anything like that. He pulls himself with his arms, uses pads to keep the pavement from beating his hands/arms up and he "walks" down the street with his hands/arms as legs, just lifting/pushing himself. I have actually seen him going down the street in the pouring rain..and wanted to, did not want a ride. That man is an inspiration!

So, needles to say when I am having a bad day then I just try and think of that.;). I go through a lot with the M.S. and the "attacks" that come with it.

I have to use a walker or wheelchair to get around but like I said.........this man is amazing.

I also agree with your "is getting older harder" on me statement, I am there as well. :D

:laugh: Now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are!

Both my parents died young. I am just happy to be here!

I think about it daily...physically I'm still a stallion:lol: but mentally its killing me. But what really gets to me is I feel I'm on the back nine now, becuase I dont think there is anyway I make it to a ripe old age. To much hard living when i was younger.
