We hear about it all the time, and with SK's success this year, I figured it'd be a good topic for discussion. I've also heard that the open district policy is going away soon.

Dixie does indeed have a very strong and talented junior class. What is your standard for winning next year? Win state? Beat CovCath? Beat Highlands?

 

Dixie will come in as the #2 team in NKY 5A next season.

Scott does have a middle school program in Woodland Middle School but this team has slowely fallen off of the table because the enrollment at both schools is dropping. Its hard to get good players to come to your school when the enrollment is down and both programs stay doormats.

 

This is true. Scott's enrollment has dropped now to below at 1000 students and preliminary indications seem to indicate that the enrollment will drop even further. This is because fewer and fewer kids are choosing to attend Scott. Scott had to let go 7 teachers just this past summer because of the decrease and there are already talks that Scott will most likely have to drop a classification to 4A from 5A but I'm not sure if that would ever happen because of the distance that Scott would have to travel to playl

I can only speak of the freshman class and for football but they only have 2 kids that should be at Scott, (Pike being one of them) and 3 or 4 that should be at SK and one Campbell County kid. Of the feeder programs most of the kids the played freshman football came from the middle schools (Turkeyfoot and Summit). A small mix of the NKYFL kids but less than 10. As far as SK goes I know the freshman team had a couple of talented kids but that was about it. Not a strong team at the freshman level but that could change in the next few years.

Travel costs vs. the possibility of being competitive for a change? No HHS, CovCath or Dixie to deal with unless you want to schedule them? Advancing into the playoffs as something other than a one and out #4 team? Gas prices are dropping of late. I think playing as a 4A school is something I'd seriously consider. I wonder which district they'd be a part of.

Most likely District 5 with Bourbon Co., Franklin Co., Harrison Co. and Pendleton Co. I would take that if I were Scott. But I don't think there will be any changes in classes and districts for the next two years.

Changing classes would be great for Scott and I think that they could be very very competitive in that district. This would be something Scott needs to get the enrollment up and have a talented football team.

Summit View and Twenhofel have been feeding some quality kids in bulk the past two years to SK. Twenhofel is 100% feed to SK and Summit View is 50% to SK. Those two midde schools about 45 - 8 combined in the NKMSFL or some silly number. There were some really talanted kids in the two prior seasons at SK. Chad Lawrence was QB at Summit View and I think the last time he lost a game was 7th grade to Twenhofel. I am realistic and do believe the bracket helped them this season.

 

NKYFL - SK LIONS had hand full of top athletes that will also attend SK above and beyond the middle schools.

At least seven or eight regular season wins and some success in the playoffs - playing into the third round.

I was told that Twenhofel went 10-1, they won the championship and have 25 players who are honor roll students.

 

At least you all choose to spend the money on middle school programs. Jefferson County Public Schools leave the development of their football players to those not affiliated with the school system. They do offer basketball and baseball!

History being what it is, I'll believe this when I've lived it.

Open enrollment does create an environement where where it is easier for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer, but that doesn't mean that change can't take place.

However the difference in making change has pushed on the adminstrative level to make the Jims and Joes want attend the school.

 

When I went to Manual our first two seasons we went 1-9, but the coaching staff put a lot of work into the program to legitimize it in terms of professionalism and resources. Now Manual gets the good players and has been a top team for a good while.

 

So what I'm saying is that open enrollment does make have and have nots, and it is difficult and slow to change, but change is possible.

I would like to see the boosters and the Dixie Admin. take a long, hard look at the football coaching staff. This year's EXTREMELY slow start, number of players who quit, and the lack of being able to "finish" should be something to open their eyes to coaching staff problems. Last year they had all the talent and weren't able to progress as far as the playoffs were concerned...this year was worse.

 

If they aren't careful Dixie is going to lose all this upcoming talent to SK cause boys who are used to winning and have the talent won't take lightly to losing all the time. Don't think those parents would be too complacent either.

Just 2 questions

Do you think this seasons slow start could have had anything to do with the combination of inexpeirence and playing 3 teams that are playing in the State finals in the first 4 games? What players quit that were contributers before they quit?

 

I think Scott will be hurt most by SK's run to the finals now kids can see both programs as better alternatives with SK possibly being the better one because every couple of years you will be opposite of the big dogs, and Dixie will have to face the biggest dog in 5A twice to get to a Championship game.
