SK could be back down in just a few years. I'm not too sure what they have coming up in the middle school but don't be surprised to see SK struggle in about 3 years.

 

IMO, a player of special abilities like Simpson, can all the difference. I'm not taking away anything from any of the rest of the SK players, but I think that if you put Simpson with any other KCO school, the become a contender.

The South Kenton NKYFL treams are all having success so I think they will be good for years to come. However, the Simpson post by Skunk above is very true. Special players like Simpson are the difference between a solid team and a state title game team. So SK is going to continue to be pretty good but maybe not back to the state championship unless they can find another Simpson like player or two.

He is clearly what seperates this team from average to good, but thats not what I meant. I meant with how bad of a season the freshman squad had they could be back out of the playoffs by the time they are the varsity players. A lot can and will change between now and then though.

 

The only reason I don't think your argument about him being at other Kenton County Schools would make them contenders works is that the others play in 5A with a team by the name of Highlands.

True, but even getting through Male was something SK would not have done in most (recent) years. They certainly have improved tremendously.

IMO you are seeing Simon Kenton reap the fruits of Dixie being unable to capitalize on some of the talent that has been through there in recent years. Maybe the good football players are giving another school with a new turf field a shot. I know someone who's son plays for Summit View middle school and they told me that a majority of the parents they talked to with the kids interested in playing football were planning on heading to play for Marksberry. This conversation took place back early in the middle school football season before this run to state by the Pioneers. Or it could be just an extrordinary talented class of kids at SK this year, who knows.

As for the effect that Simpson is having on SK's program, unlike Ryle sojourn to the state championship several years ago, SK is being lead by juniors like Simpson from what I understand. They should be able to have two back to back great seasons which can be enough to cause open enrollment kids to attend SK that otherwise would not have. And nothing succeeds like success.

Scott does have a middle school program in Woodland Middle School but this team has slowely fallen off of the table because the enrollment at both schools is dropping. Its hard to get good players to come to your school when the enrollment is down and both programs stay doormats.

True, but even getting through Male was something SK would not have done in most (recent) years. They certainly have improved tremendously.

 

Actually this Male squad left a lot to be desired.

Over the years, many people have said Kenton County's open district policy isn't fair as the Scott and Simon Kenton football programs suffer. What are the thoughts now that SK is playing for a state title?
