I think Duece gets the award, but Green from Male should be on this list, now he is heathly look at what his doing in the playoffs, but I undertand this is an overall award.

With all due respect to Ricky Bowling, who is a fantastic player, but I don't think there is any chance that Mr. Football should come from a 4-7 team (with wins over teams that went a combined 11-32) who was shutout in the first round of the playoffs.

 

I was just giving his stats. The problem with SL was the defense this year. The offense he led scored 37.8 ppg, but the defense gave up 38.2 ppg. Bowling started at safety as well and was one of the team's leading tacklers. That is not good when you are a safety, but you can't do much more than he did to give his team a chance to win. You can't discount what he has done and it is a team game. You win as a team and lose as a team. Do I think he deserves serious consideration? Absolutely, and making the final 10 is a well deserved honor. However, I don't think he will win it.

 

However, with that being said, I voted for Finch.

Corbin 23/29 for 2 TDs and 0 ints. 9 rushes for 36 yards (counting negative sack yardage), ... South lost 31-21. It was 3-0 Corbin at the half and the SL defense gave up 28 points in the 2nd half.

 

Pulaski Co 32/42 yards, 7 TDs. 3 rushes, 30 yards 1 TD. South lost 61-60 in OT. Pulaski nearly pulled off a big upset against Whitley in the 2nd round of the playoffs, scoring 35 on the Colonels, ... a number only topped by Bell County this season (who scored 38 on Whitley).

 

He has put up these numbers for 4 years in 4A then 5A and tied Couch's record which was against more smaller schools since that is where Leslie County played. Unless you have seen him play several times, it is hard to say that he isn't is good as his numbers. He is.

 

Like I said, I actually put my vote in for Finch. But let's be honest, South Laurel does not play the same level of competition as St X or Trinity have, but also don't have the same level of talent either.

They were 4-7. But when your defense is giving up over 38 ppg it is hard to beat anybody, ... it is still a team game. His TEAM went 4-7, ... his numbers were impressive as they have been all 4 years he has been the QB at South Laurel.

Even though I'm a Boyle County fan he should be listed as a finalist out of respect. I personally don't believe a kicker should ever be Mr. Football unless he kicks(five) sixty-plus fg's a game, but out of respect for his accomplishments and records I feel they could show him respect for things by making him a finalist, and I'm a Rebel fan.

It started that year with Newport Catholic TE Frank Jacobs winning it. He went on to Notre Dame and got a National Championship ring. I believe he caught a TD in that game if I'm not mistaken.
