They were 4-7. But when your defense is giving up over 38 ppg it is hard to beat anybody, ... it is still a team game. His TEAM went 4-7, ... his numbers were impressive as they have been all 4 years he has been the QB at South Laurel.

 

So do you agree or disagree that he shouldn't win the award? His team was pretty poor for the last three years he was there.

 

1) They went 9-3 and won a playoff game at Lafayette before getting handled by Henry Clay (60-18) his freshman year.

2) They went 3-7 and missed the playoffs his sophomore year.

3) They went 6-5 and were handled by Pulaski County (41-21) his junior year.

4) They went 4-7 and lost by 48 points to Whitley County his senior year.

 

Are the numbers impressive? Sure. But you've got to win a few football games to win this award, in my opinion. Should he win Mr. Football? No way.

It started that year with Newport Catholic TE Frank Jacobs winning it. He went on to Notre Dame and got a National Championship ring. I believe he caught a TD in that game if I'm not mistaken.

 

Then 1986 was the first year.

 

Just a little FYI..only five have won from the Louisville area in the 22 years. Jones, Bush and Beaumont from Male. Brohm (Jeff & Brian) from Trinity.

I would vote for Finch. However, is it Bowling's fault that with all his offensive numbers, his team's defense gave up 38 ppg this season? Hard to win much when your defense can't stop anyone.
