Still in shock, but very proud of the Rams. You couldn't ask for a finer group of Seniors (& kids). Thought we had them, but to their credit, LCA stepped it up a notch & made big plays when they had to.

 

It hurts now, but when this group looks back on their accomplishments, they will realize how special they really are. One day the Rams will eventually win that elusive regional title & get to the carpet.

 

Also, a special thanks to all of our touchdown club members; you're the greatest, & to our great fans who showed such awesome support all year long. Truly appreciative of all of your help & support. Also thanks to all of our area fans & coaches from other schools who came out & supported us last night.

Congrats to LCA on the upset.

I didn't hear the "motivational quote" from the PA announcer. But sometimes the hardest place to hear is a few rows under the pressbox.

 

I just thought that once LCA went into desperation mode, they found another gear. Witt made a ton of plays with his feet and his arm. LCA's receivers were able to get behind the Rams' secondary on a couple of big pass plays. The back-breaker was the long one where Witt was about to be forced out of bounds, then heaved the ball up the sideline. TD, the score was then 20-17 and LCA had all the momentum. LCA also committed to stop the run and had some success there.

 

We decided on a whim late yesterday morning to go to the game. Stopped at the DQ in Greenup on the way and we were the only customers in the place. I jokingly told my wife and daughter that everyone was a few miles down the road; I wasn't far from wrong. I did save room for a sausage dog with all the trimmings at the Raceland concession stand - glad I did.

 

Playoff time at Raceland is pretty special. We went to the Sheldon Clark @ Mason County game the week before; and while I love the Royals, there was no comparison in the atmosphere. Way more fans, way more enthusiasm, great food. There's not many better ways to spend a late fall Friday evening that I can think of.

When Raceland went up 20 to 7 and the PA announcer announced over the PA that "LCA might as well pack it up and go back to Lexington" it changed the game. It was like a shot of adrenaline for LCA and a great come from behind win. When you are going to be arrogant you need to cover the mic.

Jeepman, I don't know what your motivation is here, but that was never said by the PA announcer. I don't know if the radio crew said it or not on the air, but the PA announcer never made any such comment.

 

Also, the score of this game was at no time 20-7, it was 20-3, and it was 20-10, but was never 20-7. It seems that you heard and saw things that no one else seen or heard. Were you at the right game?

No you need to clean your ears out and pay attention to what is being said if you are going to start calling people a liar. There were a lot that heard it. It was not said real loud but it was said. It was very obvious that he did not realize he had the mic still on. I'll take my appology once you check it out.

 

I was sitting right beside Bill Farley ( Rams PA announcer ) the entire game and never heard him say that. I doubt he would have even said that with the mic off because LCA's athletic director and radio crew were right beside me and could have easily heard Bill say such a thing. Im not calling you a liar, all Im doing is presenting my side of it. There is a possibility you heard something I didnt but I honestly never heard him say that. Bill is a classy guy and although he does get rowdy up there from time to time, I dont think he would take it that far. Just my side of the story...

 

As far as the game goes; IMO Raceland played way to conservative on offense in the second half. To me it seemed as if they were content with keeping the lead and consuming the clock instead of attacking LCA's defense with some different plays besides running leads and traps the entire second half. I thought the Rams abondoned the pass in the second half a little to much. LCA put nine in the box and we still continued to run it right at them and try the same play action pass over and over. I wouldve liked to see us spread them out a little more and allow Boyles to make some plays with his legs and arm like he did on the first drive of the game. which we did not do until late in the fourth quarter. Also my prediction that the Rams secondary would come out and play much improved was somewhat wrong. They did a nice job as long as Witt stayed in the pocket but once he broke the pocket the Rams secondary didnt know what to do with themselves. So thats my take on what the Rams did wrong. Not bashing them but thats JMO on why we lost. However its not every friday you face a QB like Lucas Witt, the kid is outstanding.

 

On the other hand, Raceland, you guys had a great season. You all raised the bar for future Raceland teams and continued our great tradition at Raceland of being a hard working, successful, and classy program. Good luck to all the seniors, I played with alot of you guys and I have tremendous respect for all of you. Congrats on a good season and enjoy the rest of your senior year!

This score never happened. Perhaps you took a wrong turn and ended up at a different game. Because I've talked to several people who never heard the statement made and certainly are aware the game was never 20-7.

 

But enough of the nonsense:

 

Raceland Seniors- Congrats on a great year. This team will go down as one of the greatest, if not the best, in Ram history. You all had wonderful careers. I know one of the Seniors, and have known him since he was just a litle kid, very well and I am very proud of the man he has become. Bret Denton- you are the man. Your parents have done a wonderful job and I'm proud to have served along side you in the mission field and watch you grow and mature in our church family. Your parents have raised you with integrity and humility and your Dad is a mentor to me as I know he is for you. You had a great career on the field and all of us at church are proud of you.

 

To LCA- congrats. You fought back and the Rams just either couldn't, or wouldn't, adjust to try and defend the pass. But either way you played a tough game, you never quit, and it paid off big time. I am certainly rooting for you guys the rest of the way!

Whats been their motivation all year? They like to tear down Raceland every chance they can. Who cares anymore. They got what they wanted to see Raceland get beat. I can tell you that Raceland was pulling for Russell in the playoffs. I know it hurts the seniors. I have one that is just moping around the houses. They, I am sure think it is the end of the world. But the sun will come up tomorrow and there will be more adventures to follow. This group of seniors will be great leaders in the future. Not just great players great young men. They don't see it now but, Football has given them tools in life. Randy Vanderhoof is a great man that has shown and set not only in football. But a sense of pride in ones self. the boys will carry this with them. Look on the the bright side seniors. There is a lot more Football for you guys. It might not be in orange Jerseys but you will carry that Ram tuff pride with you where ever you go. Also congrats to Lca on the win. Also a tuff lose for the Rams.
