Six of their seven wins have been by 6 points or less. @ Minnesota (18-15) - A TD and 2-Pt conversion with less than six minutes to play tied the game, and then Manning lead them to a game-winning FG with 3 second left. They lose that game without him. @ Houston (31-27) - With 8:18 to play in the game, the Colts took possession at their own 19 yard line trailing 27-10. With a lot of help from Sage Rosenfels, they were ahead 31-27 less than six minutes later. They lose that game without him. vs. New England (18-15) - Not exactly a late game-winning drive, but Vinatieri did kick the game winner with 8 minutes to play in the fourth. Its certainly not a stretch to think they'd have lose without him. @ Pittsburgh (24-20) - Game-winning TD pass with 3 minutes to play. They lose that game if he isn't playing. vs. Houston (33-27) - Leading by 3 with 8:54 to play, he lead the Colts on a 16-play, 69 yard drive that consumed 7:02 of game clock and resulted in a FG, forcing Houston to go down the field and score a TD in 1:52. They may have won this one, but its not a certainty. @ San Diego (23-20) - 8 plays, 37 yards, 1:30...game winning FG. They probably don't win this game if he doesn't play. That's at least 4 games they lose without him, and quite possibly 5 or 6...I'm not particularly fond of Peyton Manning, but he has held this team together while basically every other area on the team struggled (running game, o-line, defense). He's my MVP...right now. He doesn't get my vote, but you make a good point.

November 24, 200817 yr What impresses me most about Manning has been his knack for capitalizing on opponent's mistakes...how many times has he turned a short field into a TD in their close W's? If those are FG's, the Colts lose. Give him any opening, and he makes you pay almost without exception...and if he'd done anything less than that this season, the Colts would probably be planning for the 2009 season right now.

December 19, 200817 yr Manning's stats over the past 4 games are phenomenal... 98/124, 1084 Yards, 7 TD, 2 Int (79.0%) Or, just look at the least three weeks... 83/103, 959 Yards, 7 TD, 0 Int (80.6%) That's an average game of 28/34, 320 Yards, 0 Int and 2 or 3 TD's. That's good numbers no matter who you're playing.
December 20, 200817 yr Author I'll wait to see what AP does with the Vikings before I hand Manning any hardware. I still think this race is wide open.
