Not to put words in anyone's mouth, but I like Haynesworth because I think he is the leader of that team. His numbers are pretty good, too.

Defensive players are always a longshot...someone said Kris Jenkins from the Jets should be considered (maybe Collinsworth). Those guys can battle it out for defensive MVP along with Joey Porter and James Harrison.

More so than stats? Say the season was to end today, you're saying that since the Jets have 1 more win that Favre is MVP even though he has the most INT's in the league, not even top 5 in yards, and is over 1000yards behind the leader? Highly unlikely.

 

The way I look at it, where would each team be without either of these 2 QBs.

 

I think the Jets would be around 4 and the Cards around 5. The Jets are in a better division which adds to Farves stock. If Warner wins the MVP, I would have no problem with it. I just think with Farve leading the Jets past the Pats and Titans gives him an edge, because in no way do they beat either without him.

I think you could make an argument for the Giants Justin Tuck then. They lost Umenyiora, and Strahan, yet Tuck still has around 9.5 sacks and the Giants rush D is in the top 5.

Why would I say later?

Numbers aren't everything. Both teams are winning their divisions, and are going to make the playoffs when neither did last year. Their records are almost identical. Warner's numbers are better than Favre's in pretty much every aspect. So tell me again how Favre should be the MVP over Warner again, when we see that the intangibles are pretty much the same?

 

Who has Warner beat? In their head to head matchup Favre lit up the Cards while Warner threw 3 picks and one for a TD. Arizona beat Dallas and thats about it, the Cards special Teams won that game with two scores, of course Warner tried to give it away with a INT and fumble. The Jets have played a much harder schedule and have won big games on the road, 4-2 on the road with back to back road wins at the Pats and Titans. On the other hand, Arizona is 3-3 on the road and can't win the big games at home. Sunday they had a chance to prove they were legit and couldn't get it done, two more fumbles by Warner and a INT. So, right now, I'll take Favre over Warner. I mean seriously, has there ever been a worse division in football than the NFC West? San Fran, Seattle, and St. Louis are a combined 7-26.

So the fact that Favre has a better defense, o-line, and running game have nothing to do with the Jets being where they are right now? The only area, other than QB, that the Cards are better than the Jets is WR.

 

If you watch the Jets play, it's almost like they're trying to hide Favre. He threw a total of 6 passes for more than 10 yards yesterday. They know if they have him try to air it out, they'll lose, because he makes so many mistakes. He leads the league in interceptions for goodness sakes and people want to give him the MVP?

The Titans rush defense hasn't been as good as their hype, IMO. Their pass defense is better...I'm disappointed in the performance of the run D though. It was better last year. I'd like to see them improve in that area before the playoffs.

 

But, I would say that 8.5 sacks through 11 games from a DT is really good. You typically don't get that much production from that position. Getting Vanden Bosch back, assuming he's healthy and ready to go, should help them a lot.

 

They've got some work to do though...I think the defense can play much better than it has been and the running game has really struggled lately. Hopefully, its just one of those tough stretches that can happen in the grind of an NFL season and they can get back on track.

I'd vote for Peyton first, Eli second.

 

If Peyton isn't under center in Indy, I don't think it's a stretch to say they could very well be 1-10 or 2-9. Six of their seven wins have been by 6 points or less.

 

@ Minnesota (18-15) - A TD and 2-Pt conversion with less than six minutes to play tied the game, and then Manning lead them to a game-winning FG with 3 second left. They lose that game without him.

 

@ Houston (31-27) - With 8:18 to play in the game, the Colts took possession at their own 19 yard line trailing 27-10. With a lot of help from Sage Rosenfels, they were ahead 31-27 less than six minutes later. They lose that game without him.

 

vs. New England (18-15) - Not exactly a late game-winning drive, but Vinatieri did kick the game winner with 8 minutes to play in the fourth. Its certainly not a stretch to think they'd have lose without him.

 

@ Pittsburgh (24-20) - Game-winning TD pass with 3 minutes to play. They lose that game if he isn't playing.

 

vs. Houston (33-27) - Leading by 3 with 8:54 to play, he lead the Colts on a 16-play, 69 yard drive that consumed 7:02 of game clock and resulted in a FG, forcing Houston to go down the field and score a TD in 1:52. They may have won this one, but its not a certainty.

 

@ San Diego (23-20) - 8 plays, 37 yards, 1:30...game winning FG. They probably don't win this game if he doesn't play.

 

That's at least 4 games they lose without him, and quite possibly 5 or 6...I'm not particularly fond of Peyton Manning, but he has held this team together while basically every other area on the team struggled (running game, o-line, defense).

It is funny how some strugles by the team have made some forget how good he is. He has done all he can to keep the Colts in the playoff hunt despite injuries and inconsistent play from some of his teammates.
