He deserves this. I am for the death penalty if the person deserves it.

I don't think the electric chair is used in any state any more.

I thought it was still by choice???

Had a class last semester entitled "The Death Penalty". Had alot of time to think about the issue.

When sentenced to death, the execution is to be by lethal injection, unless the crime was committed before some time in the 90's I believe. However the person, can choose the electric chair as their death penalty(thought that was still the case, but I'll believe you guys). It's not commonly used anymore. I've read some pretty detailed stuff about what can happen when the electric chair doesn't get the job done, and also some stuff where executioners purposely didn't go through proper procedures so that the person being executed would suffer more.

Personally I think the death penalty is necessary. I don't like it, there are several studies which have proven that it's not a deterrent to violent crimes, most of the crimes which are worthy or death penalty sentencing are crimes of passion or "in the heat of the moment" so to speak. However it gives some closure and resolve to the families, and that's the only reason I find it necessary.

As for this piece of trash,..... I hope it hurts.

Ever see Green Mile? The scene where the big guy is electrocuted is especially difficult to watch because a) he was innocent b) the guard purposely didn't wet the sponge prior to the switch being pulled. You can probably imagine the pain and suffereing that ensued following that screw-up...

13 inmates have been on death row for over 20 years, one of those for 28 years.

What is the freakin' hold up??

I agree that he is getting his due, but still he is losing his life.... no need to take it any further.

Why wait till 8? Flip the switch now...

I agree.

He is getting a lethal injection and it is what he deserves................Death!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree.

I would actually love to see them go back to public hangings. I would tail gate for this one.

This guy is getting what he deserves. Any time you mess with the lives of others, especially children, and take them away, you have no reason to be on this earth anymore.

The support for the death penalty on this thread is shocking. I have no idea where a lot of you get the idea that, if a person commits a crime, it becomes YOUR right to decide if they should live or not. Ironically, many of you are also abortion opponents. Apparently, your respect for natural life is only applicable when it fits your political beliefs. I find no reason why we, as humans, have the ability to correctly decide who is fit for life or not.

 If a person murders in cold blood two people and attempts at a third, they don't deserve to live. Simple as that.

Alot of it has to do with the appeals process. In the US when someone is sentenced to the death penalty, I forget how or why, but they're automatically given an appeal. It's stupid. Even if you don't want one and admit guilt, it still is appealed I forget why.

This is also another reason that alot of "practicality people" are against the death penalty as well, not because they don't think the person should die, but because of how expensive the current system is. You sentence someone to life in prison, they may appeal, sentence them to execution, there is an automatic appeals process. That cost the state a ton of money. So you're paying courts costs for a person, who's realistically supposed to be dead already, and continue to do so until everyone is tired of giving favors or second chances.

Who are you to say that? How in the world can you objectively and definitively say whether or not someone "deserves" to live?

It's not our right, it's the decision of a jury of his peers after a fair and speed trial, and after having plead to or found guilty of the crime.

I'm torn on the death penalty only because I hate the fact that innocent people, mostly minorities, have been executed when they were innocent.

This guy was not innocent, he wasn't even close to innocent. Did he find god, repent, feel any remourse? I don't know and it's not my job to know, that's between him and god.

We are the ones who have granted the right to a jury of his peers.

As for the bolded- apparently it is your job to decide who lives and who dies.

I do know that my wife got off work early today because her Frankfort office is some type of staging area for media for the execution.

I was under the impression, however, that these things usually took place at midnight. I guess I'm wrong?

If you came home and found someone in your house about to kill your family and you had the opportunity to stop them by shooting them would you?

Completely different circumstance.
