That's a great picture sequence! I love snakes, I never kill them. I've been guilty to pick them up and check them out though. And black snakes do not have a venoumus bite. However their saliva does contain venoumus type liquid. When they bit their prey the saliva acts as a paralyzer. Making it easier to digest and swallow prey. Guess you could say I'm fascinAted by snakes!

I actually had one in my house one time too when I was just a little guy. My parents were laying in their room getting ready to go to sleep when my father calls for me and asks if I had been in their room and threw a sock on top of the window ceil above the window. I said no and turn the light on and its a black snake. I'll never forget how quickly I ran out of that room. I don't think my dad killed the snake but I'm not sure if it survived the fall out of the second story window.

There are only about 18-20 venomous snakes in North America and most of them are different types of rattlesnakes.

Correct. A lot of times they're found in fields where they kill field mice. Farmers love the black snakes.

I've always herd black snakes called cow suckers.

I put a 5 footer in a box, and put the box in my car trunk in Western KY.

 

About an hour later, as I was driving home, I felt something brush my leg. Yes, it was "Fred" the snake. :scared: Fred coiled himself under the driver's seat, and I was forced to make a decision: wait for Animal Control to help me, or drive home with Fred underneath me.

 

I chose the latter, and both Fred & I made it safely to Lexington. He is now living happily on a horse farm, helping to keep the rodent population under control.

Black snakes are great to have around the property. They keep all the rodents away and are not a threat to me.

A friend emailed me the pictures, I have no idea of their origin. But they were so neat I had to post them. Very interesting.
